Default windshield crack

Well no matter how hard I try to avoid problems, this morning the windshield got smacked by a rock that sounded like a meteor hit it. The sound was worse than the damage, but the windshield has to be replaced. Two quick questions. Does the plastic frame around the window have to be removed and I recently saw some photographs and description of how to remove the frame. I checked the search, just can't find it. If it has to be removed I would rather do it myself, so if I scratch it, I can't blame anyone else. Most of the posts were positive about window replacements, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Any info appreciated. Bob

Yes the plastic frame has to be removed, I believe it just pops out. You have to be careful not to tear any weather-stripping if I am not mistaken. Also, your insurance might cover the damage so give your agent a call. Real sorry this happened to you, best of luck. Keep us posted.

The price for a replacement windshield at the Windshield Doctor in Pocatello, Idaho is $750. I asked when I had them repair a chip when I was driving through. They said that they had just replaced one the week earlier and it took them four hours. They were nervous about taking off the plastic surround so they went very slowly.
