Default Undercoating?

I bought my coupe used, so I'm not sure what was done to it before I got it. I was wondering if undercoating inside the wheel wells was factory or aftermarket? Thanks.

Thanks Andrew that is kinda what I was thinking. In fact I believe it was pictures of your car that I saw where the wells were white, or should I say "Alabaster".

Andrew, are you sure? All of the crossfires I've seen have had black undercoated rear wheel wells and the front have the black plastic liner...?

I may be wrong, so don't quote me. But I think the 04's are body color, and the later years are painted black.

Mine is an '05 and it is basically like Blacklimitedcoupe described it, and now "if and when" I meet up with any of you guys I'll be checking out your wheel wells. And for the record, if anyone asks, I am going to quote firemax, whether he likes it or not.

I have an '05 SRT-6 and the wheels wells are painted the same color as the body. There is also some black plastic lining in the front wheels wells.

Just to clarify, my car is black and there are plastic liners in the front wheel wells but in the rear wells they are not just painted black, there is a thick sprayed on undercoating, there is also the same material on the bottom of the floor pans, but it is only on the very bottom and it does not appear to have been after the fact as it isn't on the brake lines and other various parts. It is interesting to me how for a car that was basically unchanged from '04 to '05 there appears to be a lot of subtle differences.

there is indeed a sprayed textured material used in the well wheels... but mine is white and an '04...sounds like all '04s were body color.
and maybe mid '05 they started painting all wells black regardless of color. a change i was unaware of. i love learning new stuff about this car.

Kjmurphy, what is the production date of your car printed on your door? 2004 or 2005?
I'm only asking because Karmann may have changed their "inner fender" painting process on a specific date. Or maybe SRT's continued on with the body color like the 04's had.
I believe the "textured" coating (that's factory applied) is of the PVC family.
When ever I hear the word "undercoating" I instantly think of that black tar-like substance similar to "Z-Bart" rust proofing.

I have an '04 coupe, graphite paint color. The wells are black plastic. No undercoating, except what I had applied when I purchased the car.

fireamx you are probably right in describing it as a PVC material, just out of curiosity, are the bottom of your floor pans coated in the same material? In body color also? My production date is 06/04 so I am thinking it was probably one of the first '05 Bases.

Yep, the floor pans are PVC coated in alabaster just like the rear wheel wells. The front inner fenders are also alabaster, with the black plastic splash guards on the front and on the back side of the front wheel well.
I thought that I read about the '05 models all being painted black here on the forum.
Maybe it's just certain colors that get the "all over" paint treatment.
For the record, my cars build date is 1/04, and its production # is 19280.

I have an '05 Graphite Coupe with a 5/04 build date and it has what looks like black undercoating on the rear wheel wells and the black plastic on the front. I pulled my window sticker and bill of sale and don't see any mention of undercoating so I'm guessing it came that way from the factory?

Mine is an early '04 with white-ish/gray undercoating. Actually it is more gray then white.

I believe that Andrew is implying that mine is dirty; he is probably right.

Idaho, I'm with you, mine hasn't been that white since I bought my car.
"Mr. Clean" is such a show off.
