Default stick shift

Hey,

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but this morning I pulled up on the shift **** to throw her into reverse and the whole **** and boot came off. Anyone else have this problem? Are the ***** unusually fragile?

I fit the boot/**** back on, but it's not happy. I'll take it in and have it fixed under warranty.

Any ideas? Am i just a friggin' gorilla?

Right now, by gravity. The boot has little pressure type clips that fit under the lip of the console opening. I initially wanted to get a new **** (something with some leather), but I was actually warming up to the stock one. *****.

Funny you say this. This morning i went to reverse and lifted up and the whole **** and boot came with it. I was so pissed. Later today i tried to lift it again and it didn't want to come off...i have no clue what's going on.

Yep. That happens all the time now. I just want the whole thing fixed right. Sports cars ain't much fun if you can't shift aggressively. I'm impressed with the car, generally. Some stuff is lame. The switchgear seems really cheap - I'm told lots of it is Mercedes parts? I'd be disgusted if I dropped ton$ of cake on a Merc and got flimsy, hard ***** that snap when you turn em. Also, WTF is up with the sun visors? Don't turn sideways, and the mirrors have no lights? In a car with a MSRP of 35k? How does one direct heated air to the footwell only? Is that too much to ask? The night illumination of the console controls is weak and uneven.

The meat & potatoes of the car is very nice indeed, though. Nice seats, ample leg room (I'm 6'2"), chunky steering wheel with grippy leather and the stereo sounds good (controls suck, though - and no MP3.) Plus it has plenty of kick and great handling.

I don't want to take the car back to the dealer I bought it from to have the work done. They're like 60 miles away. If I bring it in to just any Chrysler dealer, I'll probably be dead last priority, and I'd be afraid they'd do a lousy job. I don't wanna deal with this.

I don't really mind because little things like that don't bother me too much because:

A: It's a Chrysler and they're known for nitpicky things like that. I know because my family owns a dealership and I've driven and rode in them all my life.

B: It's pretty much like driving a hot concept car for the street, so I can live with the little things that may have been skimped on.

I find it funny how I was trying so hard to get mine off yesterday that today, just like some of you...it just slid right off with no effort. Now that I can get it off...its shift **** shopping time.

i had the problem awhile back. all you need to do, is put the shift **** on there, and when its in place, hit the top of it with the bottom of your fist, or with a rubber mallet. be careful not to scratch the ****, but do that a few times, and it will be on their really well.

hope that helps.
