premium gas?
Just signed up, new to the forum.
I am looking at a 2004 Crossfire, with believe it or not, less than 2,000 miles. It's for sale at a dealership, and they claim that it has not been in an accident. Plan to do some more digging on that, but here is my concern.
Does the Crossfire really require premium octane gas for daily driving? I am looking for a fun cruiser, and would hate to have to pay more than $3/gallon just to go pick up my kid from school. Kind of defeats the purpose of an affordable 2-seater in my opinion.
Any advice would be appreciated.

it is highly recommended... and the engine was designed to run best on premium fuels.
will it run on lower grade gas ?? sure but the long term wear could be costly.
a 'search' will provide all views in past discussions... (see below link)...

Wow
Should have seen that coming! Not looking for a mom-mobile, just don't like the idea of shelling out that much for gas. Expensive oil changes? Maybe I'll stick with my original plan and buy a Miata.

personal preference though... some others may like the time bonding with their car during mechanical times... i bond while detailing it.
I had a friend who was complaining about having to put premium in her new G35. I explained to her that it really isn't much more to add the premium. I normally put around 10 gallons in the tank (whatever it takes to fill it up when I stop) and since premium is 20 cents more a gallon here in TN I told her it like having to pay an extra 2 dollars every fill up. I don't know about you but 2 dollars isn't all that much considering all we spend money on. How many of you play the lottery or go to the casino?

My .02:
If the car is supposed to take premium - I give it premium and nothing else. If the manual, etc. states that 87 octane is suffice - that's what I give it (i.e. my Accord & 4Runner).
As previously stated, premium is not that horribly much more than regular when you consider the peace of mind (al least IMO).
My 97 Prelude required premium so that's all I put in it. Had it for 9 years and no issues whatsoever.
My father-in-law HATES paying for premium fuel. He had a Park Avenue Ultra (SC 3.8) a couple of years ago that was supposed to take premium - but he used 87. This resulted in constant engine 'pinging,' decreased performance, and other issues.
He now has a Acura RL and a Corvette - and I try my best to make sure he puts premium in those.

I think you could probably strap 2 kids on the roof and one onto the spoiler - so with that in mind - perfect school run car.
The real issue is - mpg! mpg! mpg! when was the last time anyone looked at the mpg in the US...
Try living in the UK and paying $6 a gallon ... that's commitment to a gasss guzzler!
