Default Some strange glances

Well after nearly one full day of crossfire ownership I have noticed a number of glances at the car from fellow motorists as they drive by, and all seem to fit into one of two categories. On the one hand there are looks of admiration. "What a pretty car," these faces seem to say to me. Then there are the looks of disgust, not so much directed at the car, but rather at me. Perhaps I look too young to own this car? It seems that everyone assumes I'm driving "daddy's" car. Any other young owners out there get these looks? I can't help but laugh out loud after they drive past. An extremely riced out Honda CRX went past on my way back from lunch. The look the guy's trashy girlfriend (cigarette hanging from mouth) in the passenger seat gave me was, in a word, priceless...

Umm. Well I'm 19, and i don't think I've notice too many looks of disgust. I see middle aged men look at my car and just turn their nose. But really doesn't bother me. And usually i find teenage males in Hondas ride next to me looking, I guess trying to race. I always see minivans full of kids looking or school buses. And if a guy is in his car with a girl and she looks, they usually try to sneak a peak out of the corner of his eye. But I usually catch them looking since I look at everyone i stop next to at the red light. Just habit now. I want to check out if people are checking me out. Also if i'm driving down the street and see someone walking. I like to bet with myself if they stare when i drive by. A lot do. Also stopped i had a people talk to me asking about my car. That makes me feel good knowing people like my car enough to talk about it.

Maybe you should drive a Lancer, then you would fit right into the crowd and no one would notice you, ho ho...
After about 6 months you get used to all the dirty looks and I tend not to notice them anymore. I find it funny, that when cops pull me over they always ask, "Sir, is this your car?" Lol, I'm like do you see anyone else here? Weird ****.

yea people stare and talk ... get used to it, it doesn't get any better at 24 ... hell unless you're 50 people assume you didn't work for it hard enough yet hehe ...

once in a while i get a thumbs up from a MB enthusiast that knows cars and that makes it rather ok cause you realize a educated car enthusiast knows you got a dam good deal and rather not be driving a civic for the same money ... so a bond is formed between those with brains + car enthusiasm...

I think they ask almost everyone that in almost any car. Well i got asked one night while driving home in my 1983 Dodge Ramcharger, from work at 3 am (in my uniform). and a cops pulled me over and asked if it was my car. I must of looked specious. But why would anyone steal a car that has a blue book of less than $1,000?

Oh yeah I get treated very different with my xfire, especially from people who don't know me very well. Like my neighbors, who I don't really get into my personal information with, actually said some rude things to me. And then others think i'm a spoiled rich kid...not by a long shot.

I had a truck pull up next to me and some hick yells "Does daddy know you're driving his car?" I said "It's mine". Then he said "Well...congratulations".

It's not an expensive car. I could have bought a Civic for the same price of my Crossfire. I was just smart enough to find a good deal. It's not a "rich" car, its a unique car that has unfortunately depreciated to an affordable level.

Yeah it's not really an expensive car. $35k is the new average now adays. You can get low end like saturns and toyota's, mid end like chrysler/honda/nissan, or high end like MB, Lexus, Lotus.

There's just not much of a market for 2 seaters I don't think. Most people need at least a 4 seater, and those who don't probably dont have the income for insurance and what not on 2 seaters.

I haven't driven mine a whole lot, but I have taken it to work twice this week c/o good weather. People break their necks to look at these cars.
I get some interesting looks in the lot at work too. I park way in the back with the rest of the 'toys.' Usually, I park with an Audi S4 convertible, a newer Porsche 911, a Porsche 930 Turbo (whale-tail), a Z4 3.0, etc.
I've only had one guy come up to me about it. He is a Mercedes collector and loved it.

In kind of the same vein, why is it that every riced-out civic/accord/interga I come across wants to race? It was fun the first few dozen times but its getting kinda old...

...And don't even get me started on the guys that drive the pimped-out pickups & SUVs that try and hang with me when the road gets twisty...Sheesh!

Just today after i installed my Sprint Booster and was cruising. I stopped and got a quick car wash. and while drying it, 2 people at different times came up to me asking about it. I told them and they loved it. I had my hood all the way vertical, doors open, and hatch up, and I think that draws a lot of attention.

First of all congrats on getting your car. In my mind age makes no difference with this car, its how you take care of it that counts. The funniest thing that happened to me was when I first got the car I was parking it in the liquor store lot in Olney and I watched a woman walk right into the door, she was too busy looking at my car. You'll get a lot of looks and questions. Its rare I don't get a question like "what is it? or how do you like it?" when I'm filling up.
Good luck with things and hope to meet you sometime at the Olney Cruise In Saturday nights in the movie theatre lot.

Pat

For the record I know exactly how you feel. I have repeatedly heard people tell me to take my parents car home. Oh well what can you do. On the same note i live in the country so i don't have a lot of ricers pull up and try to race but try '71 chevelle ss's and ws6 firebirds. What a bummer i need turbo's.

I've had my neighbors asking me if I'm going through my mid life crisis. My reply is that it is the wife's car, she traded in her 300c for this thing. Although I have to admit that I am driving it more than she is.
Maybe I can talk her into keeping my Grand Cherokee.

My neighbors said the same thing with me - I have lived in the same town now for over 45 years, played little leage with the Mayor, Went to JR High with the Chief of Police and they all know me by my motorcycles and my trucks buzzin' around town. Last week I was driving my Crossfire and everyone thought I was going through some mid-life thing so I took the Xfire to the tinters today and laid 20% on all the glass except the windshield, and did that with 40%.

Now no one now its me when I cruz town - ah except that I have the only crossfiire - so really they know me just don't see me, just the ride.

I like it like that!

What I like is the response from co-workers when, on my first day of work I pulled up in my red limited, a far cry from the Saturn SC1 I was driving when they offered me a job...just coincidence btw and the response, though whispered softly was, "how much are they paying him anyway?"
