that's pretty funny.

i get crap at my office because i'm driving a lexus... a '94 lexus es that i got for 5K. but it's a lexus, and automatically that makes me richer than the people who are driving a 35K domestic SUV.

i think a lot of the reaction to the XF is because it's pretty unusual looking and unusual usually = exotic and $$$.

also, most americans (traditionally) would never have a 2 seater as their main car. so, if you have a 2 seater that looks expensive, they assume you have another car as your main ride, and if your toy is $$ what must you drive daily?

since i've been looking to get a crossfire, my roommates have been on me about practicality, and i just don't care! it's what i want. i'm 28, don't have kids, not married, have a decent job.

i guess it's just breaking the mold of have a 4 door honda, 2.4 kids and .5 of a dog. makes people nervous.

It's not an expensive car. I could have bought a Civic for the same price of my Crossfire. I was just smart enough to find a good deal. It's not a "rich" car, its a unique car that has unfortunately depreciated to an affordable level.
Yup, and next thing you know there will be buys rebadging them as Mercedes Benz's with AMG tacked on there to make it seem more expensive.

Oh wait that is already happening.

Our house is on 3 acres out in the country...100 year old house, nothing fancy - My neighbor stopped me the other day and wanted to know who was visiting with the 'fast blue sportscar - must be expensive and rare' because he had never seen one - I almost didn't tell him it was ours, but he kept asking about it so I stopped by his place next time I had or SRT6 out - I got that look of disbelief, which subsided a bit when I told of the low pricing/performance - he could appreciate it-he restores Alfa's, has 5 of them and likes 2 seaters!

I definitely know the feeling. When I drive to work (which is in a city with a lot of businessmen) I get a lot of looks of disgust.

I just go on and drive away.

Oh and to the person in Brighton - I know there are just so many Crossfires here! I have a twin of mine (same interior, too) around 1/4 mile away from my house. There's another two (a base, and a red roadster) around my city somewhere, I know where the red one lives but the base i'm still trying to figure out. I see him everywhere.

Oh, and people don't even beep or wave around here if they see another Crossfire. They just look at you like "What are you doing, kid?"

I hate when I get that look, i wish they knew I saved, and am paying for it, they just assume b/c your too young, it can't be yours.

I usually always beep/wave to other Xfires, but never got one back yet. I guess some people just think its another car.

It gets funny where I work. Our security gaurds always call me to let me know it's going to rain or when we are going to have a thunder storm and want to make sure my Crossfire windows are rolled up. They don't give a rip about anyone else's car, but they sure do take care of mine. The weekly tip I give them helps too... LOL
