Default base and limited differences

so what is actually different from the base models and the limiteds ? so far i'm finding them to be minor things, painted accents, leather high back seats with or with out heated seats, fog lights, six speaker audio over four speaker, heated mirrors and storage netting. does any one know if i'm missing something, also what options where really available ? and what does the option codes stand for ? i have a base model '06 and want to add in a few options here and there as i find them.

That's about it. No options, as far as I know.

Cool Re: base and limited differences

The "Base" does not have the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

The base doesn't have the cabin air filter which is a nice little plus. Supposed to keep the cabin dust free. Limited and srt6 have this feature.

the base coupe doesn't have the following (compared to a limited):

- no cupholder
- no homelink
- no "crossfire" nameplated stainless steel door sill plates
- no storage net on passenger side footwell
- no storage nets behind both front seats mounted on the bulkhead at the bottom
- no silver cigarette lighter
- no tire pressure monitor
- no aluminum rubber studded pedals
- no power seats
- different seats altogether with adjustable headrests
- no leather seats
- no heated seats
- no 6 speaker 240 watt infinity modulus radio (base just has a 4 speaker stereo with black ***** and no amplifier)
- no fog lights
- no silver trimmed speaker grilles
- no satin silver finish exterior windshield frame, side fender vents and door handles (all black on base)
- no chrome finish on exhaust pipe tips
- no automatic transmission option
- no color option other than black clearcoat
- no interior color option other than black cloth
- no gas strut on glovebox door (this strut is on the limited creates a slow opening door rather than just dropping open)
- no heated exterior mirrors
- no cabin air filtration system (base just has a simple recirculation feature)
- no floormats
- no touring gear (luggage)
- no painted engine cover

When you turn on your rear defroster the side mirrors heat up as well.

Just curious how much weight is saved by omitting these items. Most of the reviews I've seen list the curb weight of the Limited model at 3,050 Lbs.
One Aussie source listed the weight at 2,986 Lbs. Not sure if that's a base model or not but that 60 Lbs. difference sounds about right for the equipment omitted on the base model. Anybody get an actual weight on the base model coupe yet ?

My '05 Base coupe indeed has a cabin air filter. I replaced mine about 6 months ago with a Bosch carbon filter.

My base coupe came with ONE option. A set of Continental AST. Which is cheaper tire than "standard" Michelins for extra $195. That could be the ONLY available option other than extended warranty and dealer installed options.

Not true. According to the service manual, the mirrors heat up any time the ignition is on:

DESCRIPTION
The exterior mirrors are equipped with heater elements located
behind the mirror glass (1) on each sideview mirror. With the
ignition switch turned to the ON/RUN or START positions, the
sideview mirror heater elements are powered. The heater ele-
ments behind each sideview mirror cannot be repaired. If
faulty or damaged, the entire sideview mirror assembly must
be replaced. For complete sideview mirror removal proce-
dures, see sideview mirror removal in this section. Refer to
Page 8N-72.

I think the service manual is talking about when there is power to the circuit. The manual says that the mirrors are heated when the rear defroster is activated. That does make more sense.

The base also does not have hood insulation.

Exclamation Base model curb weight less than 3000 Lbs. !

Greetings,

Just returned from Edgewater our local drag strip. I got there too late to make tech and run but they let me use the scales. I have a three month old base model '06 six speed coupe.

With a 9/10ths full tank of gas curb weight was 3,015 Lbs.

I didn't remove the jack, floormats, cargo liner, junk in the console or glovebox or headrests, this is straight off the street...

A gallon of gas weighs about 6.25 Lbs. and there was at least 12 gallons in the tank. So I had to be loaded with seventy pounds or more of gas. So clearly, with a mostly empty tank, the base model is less than 3,000 Lbs! With me on board, "ready to run" weight was 3,195 Lbs.

So the extra weight of the equipment on the Limited amounts to around fifty extra pounds...

This makes some of the other sports and performance cars look pretty porky. Other sporty cars' drivers can brag about their higher horsepower ratings but they are fighting gravity and inertia. Collin Chapman summed it up well, "low mass is it's own reward!"

Cheers,

Slim

To the best of my knowledge the only Factory installed options were the autostick transmission, 2 color leather seats, radio with nav and all season tires.
Many other options are dealer or self installed (ie. rear fascia, windblocker, front end bra, carpet set).

The heaters are powered any time the ignition is on. Read page 8G-23.

"both outside mirrors are heated to melt the frost or ice when the Rear Window Defroster switch is depressed." Page 66, the Owners Manual.
