Default Windscreen blues

Went out to my car last night to drive home to find a 10" crack in the windscreen. It was parked in the carpark at work, with no possibility of it being damaged but it has broken. The crack starts form the very edge about 4" up one side and then goes around the tax disc and stops. I guess it will now spread in time. Could this be a fault with the fitting or screen that I could get done under warranty as there is no impact point at all, it just seems like something "gave up" and just cracked !!

possibly a stress crack...

it may be covered under warranty... if no impact chip or flaws are found/evident through a chrysler dealer inspection.

I would try using that logic and see if the dealer will go for it...you have nothing to lose. Good luck.

If the dealer does not fix it under warranty, your insurance should cover it without a deductible.

If you decide to go the replacement route I would suggest purchasing it from windrestrictor, they use poly-carb which is much stronger than Plexiglas which is what most other company's use. Many of us on the forum have purchased these and have had no problems with them.

If you bought it from windresistor, they would replace it immediately.

Since Simon is across the big lake his country may not have the same insurance laws related to glass breakage.

Good point, but something he should look into.

Hi my fellow Xfire owners from "across the lake" I went to see Chrysler yesterday and they confirmed that they too believed it was a "stress crack" and would call Chrysler warranty to establish if it was covered...guess what ?...it is !...but as the car is over 12 months old it isn't. I said as I had only done 5,000 miles and it is 18 months old, it may have taken longer for the problem to manifest itself... still no go, they won't cover it.

I am sorting it through my insurance now and have to pay an excess of £60...($120 ??? to you lot).

I just hope the new windscreen (Windshield) is identical in tint, sun shield and other black print to blend in with the style.

Thanks for the help though chaps.

Simon
