Default boot/trunk cover fitting

Hey Guys, i'm over in the UK and have just taken my '04 x-fire in for it's 1st MOT, whilst it was in there I had the 'cracked' wheels caps replaced under extended warrenty for free which i'm very pleased about... but i also requested a startech brochure so i could see how much a boot/trunk cover would be compared to importing one from CTD in Germany - they told me that it would be much cheaper to import.

Fair enough...

But they then went on to tell me that there are no existing fittings to install the cover on (although i have noticed two small 'buttons' in the boot/trunk so does it not attach there?) Anyway, they told me it would take 3 hours at £80.50 an hour for them to fit it!

How easy is it to fix yourself - are they just having a laugh?

Cheers,
Matt

Bet you didn't charge yourself £80 an hour either ; ) haha.

Was there much drilling etc needed or is it a pretty simple job to do ?

Same here. There are pre-threaded holes in the bulkhead where the cargo cover bolts on. A couple of slits in the carpet following the template and you are there. Easy to install with patience.

I just installed mine this weekend. It's pretty easy, just take your time and you won't have any problems. Just remember the old axiom of "Measure twice, cut once".

A couple of things to watch out for:

1. The instruction sheet specifies to tighten the nuts that screw on to the bulkhead to 30nm. I almost stripped one of them while tightening it. I would recommend changing the torque to "snug" +- 5nm. The bolts are pretty hefty and will hold the cover easily.

2. Be very precise when you mount & drill the templates for the hooks that go on the back by the hatch. If they're off by even a little bit the screws will be very difficult to line-up.
