Directional tires are supposed to be better for handling.
My advice - stick with a good brand and check Tirerack.com or the like to review ratings and performance in the categories you have above (wet, noise, handling).

I am sold on the Michelin Pilots that came with the car. It looks like I am going to get 20K or more out of them and they have plenty of grip for me. I have had truck tires that didn't go 20K miles that were just as costly. However, I don't use my car in the winter and I really don't think the Michelin's would be much in the snow, they are as far from all weather as you can get.

I just purchased the BFG KDW2 tires for mine. I have only had them 2 weeks but so far I really like them. Their appearance takes a bit getting use but the handling and wet performance seems very good. I have an autocross soon and I will give an update after that.
I also looked at Michelin PS2, Avon M500 and Goodyear F1 G3. PS2s are to pricey for me. I have had other Avons and really liked them on my Audi A4. They flat-spotted every morning and takes several miles before they smooth out but great tire for the price. It takes an "act of Congress" for me to purchase any Goodyear after having many bad ones over the years but the F1-G3s really seem like they are incredible on the performance side. I did not purchase them mainly since most people did not get many miles out of them.
