Question Any place in the Dallas Area I can get the Xenons Installed??

Just was curious... I am not very good with electronics & didn't want to screw up anything... How difficult are the McCulloch (Spelling??) Xenon light kits to install?? I want to go with the 6,000 output (per the forum) I have no problems paying someone to put them in... Please advise...
Thanks.

I highly doubt you'll find a reputable place to install them... NHTSA fines for shops installing these runs in the range of $5k a vehicle.

Yeah, it's illegal to install HIDs commercially that's why on most sites it says for "Show Purposes Only" because the only legal HIDs come straight from the factory. Will you get a "fix-it" ticket over it, no (unless you have a **** of a cop).

The best way to install them for me was to leave the retaining clip on the headlight, feed the wires of the bulbs through the clip and then you should be able to angle the bulb-end to get it to fit through the clip and into the housing.

It might sound confusing now, but doing what I said above will cut a lot of time out of installing time. 5 minutes compared to the 30 min trying to force the retaining clip back on with the bulb in the housing.

Also, go with the 4,200K output. Most, if not all OEM vehicles with HIDs are 4,200K. 6K isn't that blue on the road and the output is still better than halogens, I'd just like it to look more white than blue. There will still be a tinge of blue on the exterior depending on the angle at which you look at it.

Its worth mentioning that the nhtsa has declared that hid kits are illegal for import into the US, period. The declaration that they're "for show purposes only" offers absolute no legal protection to the sellers.

As a buyer/user of one of these products, about the worst that's going to happen is you'll get slapped with a small fix it ticket... and on a car like the crossfire, that's very unlikely.

As a retailer, however, there are MUCH bigger issues to be weary of.

Just food for though.

My McCulloch 6,000K kit was installed by my dealer without issue or hesitation.

They're walking a very thin line there...

Unfortunately a lot of places don't bother to look into the laws before doing this... the nhtsa is constantly shutting people down for this stuff (ever wonder why mucculloch no longer is in business)?

This is very true...but I would never implicate them if something was to go wrong. I guess they are just trying to keep my business by keeping me happy.

it's rather unfortunate that they're doing this honestly... while the crossfire seems to take to drop in hid kits somewhat acceptably, most cars are horribly unsafe with them in place.

I guess we can honestly say that "most" of our cars would have something that is NOT street legal, ie: filters, intakes, mufflers, lights... etc.. but that doesn't stop these aftermarket places that are making Millions... So, in other words... I think that some HID's that are "legal" are worse that some that are not... have you seen the new Audi's lately or the X5's???

The x5 is bad, especially if you're driving a small car, simply because it's off the ground.

That said, it's NOTHING compared to a drop in kit in a halogen reflector headlight. The x5 and such are bright, but most drop in kits are so bright and distracting, it makes it nearly impossible to see where you're going.

To show the difference, here's a comparison between the light output of an oem hid projector and a drop in hid kit in a halogen headlight.

glare-1.jpg

The drop in kits throw glare everywhere, and very very little usable light anywhere. The proper hid projectors focus it all where it's supposed to be, and reduce it where it shouldn't be... like oncoming drivers' eyes.

Fortunately, the crossfire projectors do an ok job of keeping this under wraps, however, there is still A LOT to be gained from the headlights from switching to a projector designed for hids. You'll get a little less glare, a much more controlled cut off, and a much wider, more evenly distributed beam.

why would you chose bulbs that not only produce less light than proper bulbs, but are lower quality, and alert the police to the fact that you're using an illegal lighting kit.

to clarify the lower quality part... the only quality 6,000k bulbs makes are the philips utilons. These are very expensive bulbs, running in the range of $200 just for a pair of bulbs. The kits available on the market with higher k bulbs use cheap knock off bulbs that are held to no standards for output, fit, or color.
