You would have to see the SLK in person at a mercedes dealer and compare the two (SL) and (SLK). Yes the SL is much more impressive but it also carries a price tag of $120,000 +.

 

If $$$ was not a problem you would be crazy not to pick an slk 55 over the crossfire ... I almost have to change my pants just thinking about the quad exhausts and the way it sounds.

 

Even if $$ was not an issue I still would not pick an slk even if it was an AMG.

 

Front end of slk55 looks great... back end can use more work.

 

Now post a side profile of the slk vs sl, I also notice if you take a pic from the ground level vs one taken from above at eye level the SLK will look alot different. mercedes designers got lazy on the back half of the car. It could of been a winner but its no SL.

I think all you SLK haters are being a bit harsh. Sure it is no XFire or even SL for that matter but it is not a "girly" looking car all over. The side strakes and runner along the base of the doors gives it an edgy look almost shark-like in a way. The rear I will admit is ugly. But the similarities between the SL's hood and the SLK's are uncanny and can't really be denied. I admit when car shopping turning away from some cars because of being girly (i.e. toyota celica and others) but I don't think there's anything girly about this car especially when it could definitely run with an XFire (not SRT6 of course). As a matter of fact I parked in the spot of a Silver SLK owner as he backed out and I waved to him... think he was confused... not many SLK owners have any idea the Crossfire's roots are so close to their own cars.

P.S. That SLK owner did not look like a girl... in fact he had a beard. But hey what the heck he must be queer or at least metro... he was driving an SLK!

the interior on the benz blows away the interior on the xf, and i kind of like the front formula 1 inspired grille too, and you cannot deny the awesomeness of the retractable hard top! but i still love the exterior looks of my xf, btw you see thousands of benz' but hardly any xf's on the road, that makes them even more special, imo, and saving 20 g's is pretty awesome too!

 

Couldn't agree with you more on all fronts nascar. That is something I haven't previously mentioned about the SLK. The interior is really awesome. I have seen a few with the top down and liked the set up a lot. Much different than the XFire.

 

The one thing I dislike most on the SLK is the side roof profile. Too high and too short, it looks like a bubble. The SL at least stretches that out. Front is pretty cool, back, eh.

 

Coming down the road the SLK looks so tiny, smaller than a Mini, and it's girly. Almost every one of them I've seen had a woman driving it.

Speaking of girly, from my observations, almost every late model sport coupe/convertible under $50K are driven by women (Solstice, Sky, Z3, Z4, etc). Exceptions are the Infinity G35 and Crossfire coupes which have been mostly males. The C6 Corvette is about 50/50 (although the previous models were almost exclusively male) and the Mustang 60/40 (m to f).

Not too sure about the Miata since I never notice them.

I would say a lot more males drive the miata. Its the average joe's convertible. The XFire is heading that direction but don't tell anyone!

I love that rear shot actually. Those exhausts are reminiscent of a C5 corvettes. Very sporty.

 

i too am a big fan of the new body slk55...

 

But this one seems to be a Brabus tuner version; they are always macho aggressive (and fast). The quad exhausts are on all of the SLK55 AMGs.
