Default Anyone Else Heard This?

So I was talking to someone the other day and he was telling me that he has the car that the XFire is based on. I said "The SLK?" and he says "No. The AMC Marlin." He claimed that most Crossfire owners won't admit to it but that the AMC Marlin was the inspiration to the Crossfire. Apart from the fastback, I don't see it that much and really think this is some wishful thinking on their part. Here's a link to what a Marlin looks like. Tell me what you all think:

There is also this fun fact and link to the AMX: AMX assembled by Karmann

I do see a resemblance in the Marlin's boat tail design. I always thought that car was hot when I was a kid. It was kinda big though. Still a very good look.

Maybe the man here that designed our cars will weigh in. I would be curious to hear his take on it.
