While checking out the rear axle whine, my Chrysler technician accidently replicated the "first gear jump out" recently. So with my car about to go in for surgery for the first gear synchro, I want to ask my brothers and sisters in this forum to light candles, say prayers, spin three times and spit on the wall or what ever you can do to get the gods of auto repair to help keep my Chrysler mechanics from BUTCHERING MY CROSSFIRE. Thank you.

 

What year is your XF? Let me guess, an early build 2004? Some cars built before Dec 2003 are
the ones that were prone to the popping out of 1st gear problem?

How long have you had the car and how long has it been popping out of gear? They should have
fixed it the first time you took it in with no questions asked. It is a difficult issue to replicate... and
is well documented with a TSB out on the subject.

What are they going to do about the rear end noise?

I've had the transmission and rear end replaced on my car. Good luck with yours and let us know
how it turns out. And relax, it's only a car...

Yup, it's an early build 2004, but the dealer would do no repair without replicating the problem, as if I would purposely allow them to work on my car if I didn't have to. They also won't fix the axle whine because it's not loud enough and, get this, they want to fix the hatch rattle with foam tape. You have to keep your sense of humour when dealing with Chrysler service.

That's total B/S. Have them contact Chrysler on the Star line and get the information about. If you can hear axle noise, it
needs to be fixed. It will only get worse over time. My '04 Crossfire and my '06 Jeep Liberty have both had their rear ends
replaced because of the rear end whine.

You need to stand up to those idiots or find a different dealer. Good luck and keep us posted...

Just cuz you asked...Day 1, car not finished, they can't find their tools. Uh-huh. Day 2 found tools, need to order more parts. Right. The good news is that at least the transmission is out and taken apart. Really, I mean it would be worse if they couldn't even take it apart wouldn't it? I'm having recurring nightmares about Humpty Dumpty. HDDP, how many more candles you got? Brent, kill that car.

I am with benz on this one, he recently gave me some crucial advice to my gear whine problem. Search for "humming noise while driving over 50" something like that. I chronicled my journey through Chrysler hell. Anyways I was able to replicate the sound when I test drove the car with the dealer. Its all about finding an honest dealer. I lucked out and the second dealer I took it to replaced the differential... low and behold the whine is gone and my car actually shifts much smoother. I repeat REQUEST A TEST DRIVE WIT H THE DEALER and replicate the problem so they can't deny the noise. This happened with the first dealer I took it to, what an idiot that guy was. Anyways best of luck to you... oh by the way I have an early 2004 as well.
