Today I used a clay bar on my car and WOW, what a difference! It was pretty easy and the paint is more smooth than most new cars. It was a Mothers kit that included the detail wax (used for lubrication during clay bar application) and some carnuba cleaner wax. That was the best 15 bucks I've spent in a while on detailing supplies. If your paint feels rough, you should consider using a clay bar, it's awesome!

 

I did mine on Tuesday. I used Mother's Clay Bar, and then followed it up with the Mequires 3-Step Deep Crystal system. It looks vary vary nice!!!

I should have fixed some of the chips first, but oh well, I'll get them soon enough.

 

I just top coated mine with Zymol, my favorite wax.

 

i am procrastinating about waxing my car... I got a free nxt kit from a friend. is that good wax?

 

NXT is an excellent wax, although many feel it doesn't last very long because it stops beading sooner than many other waxes do. But there is also a small faction who believe that water beading is not necessarily a good thing as it leads to bad water spotting and, ultimately, etching. The problem is that the general public insists that water beading is a sign of protection so as a rule they don't want something that sheets.

If you've ever gone through the full prep process of wash/clay/machine polish and then gotten the car wet you'll notice water beads quite well on the surface. But at that stage there is no protection whatsoever - water beading is NOT always a sign of protection!!!

 

Try this: after washing the car, put your hand inside a plastic ziploc bag (or equal). Now very lightly rub your fingertips over the dry paint surface. Clay bar the spot and do the baggie test again and you will understand the benefit of clay.
