Windshield pits and scratches
Thanks to NeverEnough,
I did some research online and discovered that indeed, regular, cheap toothpaste can remove or hide very light scratches and those annoying pits that show up when the sun hits the windshield. I'm going to try this tomorrow!!
Here is one of the many "How toos" I found.

That may work on slight scratches but I would be surprised, but delighted, if either of those two would work on the micro pits caused from air born particles when cruising at high speeds (excess of 120 mph) but if it does let us know. Two years ago I ended up with a very pitted windshield going across Nevada between 140 mph and 150 mph for a span of about 30 minutes, since then I don't exceed a 120 mph anymore.
My windshield has been annoying me since I got the car. I've even considered replacing it because I hate having to explain that it isn't dirty, that it's pitted. I'm going to experiment. If the tooth paste doesn't work, I'll buy the glass polishing system from a catalog I found.

Ok, so, today I went to the dollar store and bought 3 tubes of good ol' white tooth paste for 79 cents each. They even came with tooth brushes (good for parts washing)!
I tried several methods of water, no water, damp rag, orbital buffer, no orbital buffer. My results: A minty smelling, clean, but pitted and scratched windshield.
It didn't even remove the tiny microscopic hairline scratches most likely left by ice scrapers.
Oh well, now I'm off to find a glass polishing system.
Thanks for the recommendation though, I wish it would have worked.

Thanks for the sad but honest report. Perhaps clean and minty-smelling isn't all bad. But it looks like Colgate and Crest will stay on the shelves of the auto supply stores just a little longer, though ...

As for the headlights, I will try it on those as the PlastiX hasn't done a darn thing.

Yea, I'd be trying to fix it myself as well if it cost $1,400!
By the way, safelite.com quoted me $332.95 for a crossfire windshield. That includes installation. I'm not sure if they are in your area, but that price is much more reasonable than $1,400.
I guess the only other option is a 'used' windshield, which is probably VERY hard to find.
