Lightbulb How much mileage is too much?

Hello all I am very new here this is my 1st post actually. The crossfire has been my dream car since it was released back in 2004, and now that I have a new job I can actually afford to buy one. But I am looking for some opinions on what too look for when I buy one? I saw one today black/black 50,000 miles and in pretty well shape for about $16,000 what are your thoughts is this too much mileage, I am alittle scared that its not under warrenty? THANKS ALL THIS FORUM IS THE BEST OUT THERE!!!

I'd pass. Look at some of the other threads on here. Some people are getting nearly new regular crossfires for 15-19 thousand. Look online and in the Autotrader.

I purchased one with about 44K miles on it. I did get it from a Chrysler dealer for about $16K. I also purchased a Chrysler MaxiCare extended warranty that covers 5,004 parts for 5 years or 50K miles from the date of my purchase. It cost $1,600, has a $100 deductible, and provides a rental car if the repair takes more than 1 day. I probably would not have purchased the car without the warranty. Now, if something goes wrong, it's Chrysler's problem and I can enjoy my ride for the next 5 years. That's just me but I'm beyond the point of wanting to get my hands dirty and performing repairs on an XF is beyond my abilities and most parts cost a small fortune. One man's opinion.

I think that $16 grand is alittle high for a XF that has that mileage. But, I would agree with Fenwick - buy from a dealer where you can get the warranty - While the Xfire is a Chrysler - remember it's a Mercedes underneath - I have owned Audi's for over 15 years, and owned a '71 280SL - If you want to spend some money? - Service and fix an old german car! Made my Alfa's look cheap.

Funny you mention an Alfa. My first car - 1967 Red Alfa Romeo Duetto (just like in the movie The Graduate). Bought it used in 1969 for $2,500 when new ones were running $4,500. I learned real quick about the cost of repairs and parts coming from Italy.

FYI - Just bought a "new" 2005 Limited Graphite 6-speed from chrysler dealer for $19,200 - had 61 miles and an in service date of 2-27-2007. There are similar deals out there - if you can swing $3K more I would go "new" with no worries for 3 years/36,000 bumper to bumper and of course more on the powertrain and body.

There's no reason to buy an XFire that has 50K miles on it. For many owners, the car is a summer weekend car and there are plenty of XFires for sale with ridiculously low miles on them. Even if you have to pay 2 or 3K more for a low mileage xfire, it's well worth it IMHO.

Go for a low mileage Crossfire and buy an extended warranty that will allow you to get service from any certified dealer
not limited to Chrysler.
I bought a '04 coupe with 17,000 miles back in April for $18,900 and got a 5 year / 75,000 mile warranty with $100 deductible for $1,600 and it honors repairs made at any certified shop so I can choose to go to Mercedes dealers who most likely will know the car much better than Chrysler. Best of luck. There are a lot of good deals out there.

www.autotrader.com is a good source.

That's not bad at all, go for it! That's a beautiful color!

I paid close to 19k after taxes and mine is a '04 limited coupe with 34k miles.

I agree.
It sounds good and it's a nice color but then all the colors are nice.

I also just bought a new '05 Blaze Red Limited, in service date, the day I drove off the lot. 9 miles, full 3/36 and 7/70 warranty. The headlights were discolored and they put new ones on under warranty. $20,500. I feel like I stole the car.

Got mine for $15,000 with 48,000 miles. That gives you a perspective on your first deal. Even at 51,000 now I can't help but find comfort in that Mercedes engine under the hood. The car still feels as solid as ever.
