Crossfires at Costco - 1/18th scale diecast Maisto
Ok, ok. So this thread was dead for a while...I'm bringing it back. Just for those who are interested I have found a online site that has 1/18th scale diecast models....
http://www.diecastmodelswholesale.co...ast/Categories
they have them in the most common colors (black, white, ssb, machine grey, blaze red).
they are $22.99 each.
I actually jsut purchased one. I like them, they have opening doors, hood, trunk. Steerable wheels, along with actual rubber wheels. Not to mention the detail is just plain impressive... Get em while they're hot.

ooo sorry FP, you are so right...what a shame. now that would be impressive if they had a working top roadster with real leather...i would buy that and i don't even own a roadster...ahh, at least one can dream.
I have a Maisto coupe and it beautiful. I contacted Maisto inquiring about them having any plans for a roadster, but they have not gotten back to me.
Maybe we could persuade them to make a roadster if we organized a group buy?
BTW, I purchased two of the red coupes. I gave one to my wife to take to the office (Chrysler is a client) and the other one I keep in the box and save for prosperity.

I've saved many things for prosperity. How's it working out for you?

I was shopping at Sam's in Chattanooga, TN today and ran across a diecast Crossfire Coupe in the Oyster Gold Metallic color. I was looking for a Roadster but no luck. The cost was $11....I didn't know if this was a rare find or something pretty standard.
The Crossfire is a rare car, and relativly unknown by the "general" public. Long forgotten by all the automotive magazines, and most TV car shows as well. That being said, we're pretty darn lucky to have ANY 1/18th. scale models of the Crossfire ever being built.
Now with pallets of them showing up at "warehouse" style stores, it sounds as though their "limited" production run is probably over, and they're being dumped for wholesale prices.
If enough people emailed the company that builds them, they might be persuaded to build a Roadster.
I had to wait nearly 30 years for somebody to finally build a 1/18th scale model of my AMX, I bought one in every color offered.

I saw a nice AMX on the back of a car hauler, but i couldn't get the driver on the cb to tell me where it was headed...that would be the scale I would like to buy...but, yes< I would love a 'vert version...of my XF
Anyone thinking of starting a petition to make a Crossfire roadster model had better think again.
The cost of making the molds, manufacturing the parts, assembly, packaging and distribution is huge even if made in China. I would guess that a minimum order of 10,000 would be required and even then I doubt that the cost of each model would be less that $250 each.
I was in the mold making industry and people phoned me and asked for the price of a mold to make parts that they wanted and they choked when I told them the cost of a mold. Even a Chinese made mold would not have helped them, molds cost $$$$ and lots of it and you still have the machine time to pay for just to get the individual parts.
Making models like this is a big risk, companies go bankrupt pretty quick if they make too many bad guesses on the models to produce.
PS
I have a MOTOR MAX 1:18 black model and even it is tough to keep clean. What I need is a 1:18 car cover. Dan are you there?
