Default Cracked Trans case at 88k

I need a little direction from the group, my '04 manual transmission xfire with 88k miles has let me down for the first time. I have never had a single issue with the car until this week when it decided to dump transmission dluid all over the place. Long story short...I took it to the dealership and the transmission case is cracked. The estimate is $4,800, if anyone can poiint me in the direction of a used transmission or used case (since my internals are fine) I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is an auto trans on ebay:

You might want to contact the seller and ask if he knows where a manual trans is.

Depending on the where the crack is a good welder might be able to fix it as long as it wasn't a stress related crack and even then maybe. It is not the most desirable option but may be the most economical alternative. I guessing that the damage was road, was it?

Edit:

RPM's post beat mine in, but if I were you I would would go for the one on eBay. Your's could still be fixed at a latter date if needed.

Idaho & RPM thanks for the advice, I will be calling the ebay seller now. I have no clue where the damage came from and the dealership says they have never seen this on a crossfire. I do a lot of hwy driving, and about a month ago I noticed an occasional drip in the garage, not even a daily drip. Monday I went to have new tires put on and it was like a re-enactment of the Exxon Valdez.

I noticed that zeracer posted that he had a 05 manual for sell back in september, if you know him could yuou please have him contact me regarding this thanks.

Hope you will get it fixed soon.

It happened to me one time on my Ford Taurus, the transmission fluid spilled everywhere as I got off the freeway. I was so lucky that I found out it was just a hose came loose. I reconnected it and added the fluid and keep going (Yes there was an auto shop just one blocks away). Best possible case one can ever had.

I am very lucky that the spill occured while it was on the lift at discount tire...had I been on the hwy, i can only imagine the damage.

There was a manual trans for $299 on ebay last week from LKQ.

Look in the SRT6 forum for a post called 'no manual SRT' by StaticXfire, I posted the link in there.

You think ?

Mr. F... You seem to know your stuff... I would bet they drove the car onto the lift with one of the offset arms in the center... Perhaps even with the adjustment plate sticking straight-up... And CRUNCH !!!

After looking on LKQ I could get a SRT6 engine with 8k miles, and an auto transmission with low miles for about a grand less than the dealer wants for a new transmission.

Also I pulled the car into the bay at Discount...and no crunch.

no crunch? i believe that. but you weren't running the lift...THEY were.

and please tell us the conversation didn't go like this:

they said "we didn't do it," and you just said "okay!"

Ahhhh, I did not think of that. Anyway to prove this, other than it was not dumping fluid prior to that?

Is this a somewhat rare but regular occurrence with the Xfire? I also have a Miata NB, and regularly read/troll the Miata forum, but this occurence is none with those, and most Miatas are manual, and driven hard (myself included), including motocross racing.

I have never heard of this issue other than on this thread. There is a somewhat common trans seal issue, but not this.
