Default How long to sell?

So I am trying to sell my Xfire...I didn't really expect to sell it here, since you all already have one (duh, you are on the xfire forums...heh). But I am having MUCH difficulty selling it ANYWHERE. It's really depressing.

For those of you that have sold an xfire...what do you suggest for me. (No ebay...they are going for like 10k on there and I just can't go that low, it's stupid.)

I have had difficulty in this part of the country selling my Acura RSX that I replaced with my SRT6. I did get a couple of bites using Craigslist.com. it is free and can be listed for your immediate area. If you "have" to sell iwould guess advertise everywhere and lower the price till you get it sold. Sorry I haven't any better advice.

Good Luck

Yeah I got it up on craigslist - the only problem I have with that is that SO many people post every day that my ad gets pushed down in about an hour, so less people see it. Irritation!

What are you going to buy? Why are you selling? You might be smarter to just drive and enjoy it. I think they are hard to sell becuase Chrysler never promoted them and they are so few and far between, most people don't even know what they are. They are an orphan like the old Superbird that now sells for 2 00K+. They couldn't give them away when they were new.

AimeeJ,

It's like anything else, all it takes is the right person to come along to sell it.

Zeracer,

You still couldn't give me a Superbird. Man those things were ugly.

Hah, gotta agree on the Superbird.

And I am selling, Zeracer, because it is choking me with the payments. We literally have no money at the end of the month because of it. Not to mention we are swimming in debt from some other issues that came up suddenly...so I will return to my old ZX2, if I can just sell this darn thing.

Don't know if it'll help but, I believe a few people sold their cars to Carmax and got a decent price. That might be something to check into.

Go to carmax and see what they offer to buy it outright - they are pretty much in line with what 95% of the other car dealerships will offer you (at least in my area).

Unfortunately, the values have dropped...that's just part of the game.

If you can't sell it for what you owe, worst case, sell it for as much as you can and get a loan on the balance. This loan payment should be much less than the car payment, and easier to pay off, which should ease some of your financial burden.
This is only an absolute MUST sell situation as you are paying a loan on something you don't have. Obviously, your credit will have an affect on all of this as well. If you have poor credit, you may not be able to get a personal loan on the balance.

Things happen...and sometimes we are forced to unload things we thought we couldn't live without. It's a bummer, but it is better to take a small hit and pay for it for a year with payments as opposed to missing a few payments, getting a repo, and paying for it on your credit for the next 7+ years.

Then there is always the option of another job...Been there!

For the record - I would love to have a Superbird! If either of you are given one and 'wouldn't take it if it was given to me', send it my way.

Thanks ShawnQ, the loan may be a pretty good idea. I was hoping to get a trade-in to get a smaller car perhaps, to lower my payments considerably but they need $1,000 down. Maybe I can just get a loan for that, since it will be a lot smaller. Thanks.

Don't you have a ZX2 still? Or were you just saying you want something in the ZX2 price range again?

No, I still have the ZX. I told my parents they could use it since I wouldn't be, and it is fully paid off. I was hoping to sell the Xfire and go back to using the ZX since it is, pretty much, free. But no one will buy.

And I just realized I can't get a loan because with two cars under my name, my credit is taxed to the limit...

It blows being upside down on a vehicle; I know I have been there when I was younger. Here is three options you might look into:
  1. Look at trading it off on an older and even less popular used car. I traded a '92 fully loaded extended cab Silverado for a '87 six cylinder base Bronco. Fortunately I got a good reliable vehicle but you can end up even in worse shape if you get a car that has issues.
  2. The option is trade it off for lease vehicle, at least with a lease vehicle you will have a car that is still under warranty.
  3. Try a consolidation loan and include your car if you can swing the payments.
I hope it works out for you.

I guess your other option is to trade the ZX and the XF and put it towards one smaller car payment.

Unfortunately, 2 for 1 is almost never a good deal...but if you must, that's an option.

Any chance at refinancing for a longer term? Not 'financially' a good move either, because you will pay more in the long run - and pay it off much slower, but it could lower your payment.

I was actually considering using the ZX as my 1k down payment - it is worth about 2k. Does that ever work?

Haven't you had it for sale for less than a week??

I've had my 2004 with 47k miles on it for sale since Sept. It's on TCL, craigslist, Hondahookup, here and there are signs on my car. I haven't even had ONE seriously interested party.

I started at $14,500 and now I'm down to $13,000. Still nothing. If you really want to sell your car, you are going to have to face the fact that the new model year and the availablility of "dead stock" new ones have killed this cars value.

For a frame of reference, I had a Chrysler/Jeep dealer offer me $11,000 on a trade-in back in early Sept. Prices have fallen off even more since then however.

Looking at Manheim results, these cars are lucky to bring in $10k at auction.

That's what I was referring to when I said 2 for 1.

The bad thing is, you are just getting into another car payment (and likely another vehicle that will have negative equity for the first two + years of ownership).

Best option would be to keep the ZX2, sell the crossfire, and pay off the difference.

If you speak with your bank/credit union, and let them know what you are planning - they can likely help. Although you have two cars on your credit right now, you will only have one if you sell the XF and get a loan for the difference. That loan will be LESS than the loan on the crossfire, so you should be approved for it.

I am still young, but have finally gotten over the 'trade my car every 4 months' bug. I used to get tired of cars on what seemed like a weekly basis, and I would trade them. This stacks up negative equity really quick. When I bought my last vehicle, I rolled around $10K into it (YES, STUPID!)...BUT, I made extra payments (worked a second job) and have got it to the point where my vehicle is now worth as much as I owe or a little more, so I am 'even'.
This isn't on the crossfire, BTW...on my truck.
The crossfire is an SRT, so they hold value a little better...but we are likely negative on it as we just bought it. However, it is for my wife and she keeps cars - so we will own it for a while.

Sorry you are having such troubles - just be methodical and work through it. Tough solutions are always a series of small steps.
a couple of things I would do:
Call the bank that has your loan and tell them your story today. Ask them what they think you should do.
Start planning your finances factoring in that you can not sell your car for 3 months. Prepare and execute that strategy now.
I assume you are asking what the loan is on the car. Take a loss. Do not default on the loan.
If you just treat this situation as a pain in the *** thing that has to be worked through, you'll be fine. Have a glass of wine.
