How long to sell?

I got a buy quote from Carmax for $17,500 also - but it made more sense to trade it because I could save money on the taxes for the SRT.

Have a retired person close to you buy a LOTTO ticket with your $5.
Ask them to payoff your XF if they win. Old people always win lotto.
It's worth a try. Honestly I do hope you pull out of this without a great loss.

Good luck - I sold my '06 Limited to Carmax and made out really good. Had to do it to buy the SRT-6. The limited was so cherry (best paint job I have ever seen on a production car - not one flaw) I would check the Carmax website everyday to see it - but it never did show up - my guess is someone (employee most likely) purchased it right away.
I put it in the paper, Craigslist, Autotrader, even parked it at busy intersections and in front of the credit union with ballons. - These cars really suck for reasale value but everyone knows that.
Sorry to hear you can't keep the car - I know you really liked it.

Another idea is to sell for what you can, take the loss and painfully pay it off and bite the bullet. It may sound hard, and believe me it is, but sometimes if you need to rid yourself of a burden, you just do it and pay the consequences!
Thanks for all your help, guys.
My credit score going into Carmax today was, I thought, at 640 - fairly decent. I went in, gave them the Xfire and the ZX to see what I got. I got 15k for Xfire and $1,200 for the ZX. Not too bad, I thought.
They would not finance me. The only place that did agree to do it, wanted a 3k down payment ON TOP of what I was bringing in. Needless to say...I couldn't do it. I don't have a penny to my name right now (except maybe under my couch), so no way could I pull 3k.
It's really disappointing, and I don't know what else to do. I guess we will just be stuck with this car since it's resale value is absolute dirt. Working two jobs is what I see in our future.
I wish I had researched this car a bit more. :/

I did not know what a Superbird was, so I googled it, saw it and still don't know what it is...lol.
Well like the housing market, when it comes to XF it is a buyers market. I would obtain three quotes for different dealers and sell to the one offering the most. Take a small loan and pay off the rest b/c the longer you hold on to the XF, the bigger hole you're digging.
Wish you the best!

Put it on Autotrader. Chock this up to a learning experience...

I would take the $15,000 from carmax. I don't think you'll find a much better offer out there right now, especially with prices still depreciating for the Limited and Base models as they are. Too bad you don't have a convertible, those fetch a substantially higher price used still.
$15k from Carmax is a STEAL, take that deal and RUN!!! As I said, Manheim auction prices for these cars are getting disgustingly low, which means dealers are going to start offering even less.
I might go Carmax myself now, haha.

I has probably been suggested, but put an ad in with Autotrader.com
You should also have a local office in your area, though it doesn't really matter.
I sold my Eagle Talon through them and it worked out very well. I had a lot of calls from all over the US.

Shame you are upside down - I've been there myself some years ago, and remember it sucking! I like cars.com and I've had good success there. It ultimately comes down to you pricing the car at what it will sell for, not necessarily what you want or need it to sell for. Market dynamics apply!

My '05 Limited Coupe has been listed on Autotrader since October with not one call....
It's in storage now, waiting for spring for maybe an offer or a decent trade in value. Or maybe spring fever will change my mind....
I know what you mean though, when I bought the car new in April '07 I thought I was getting a great deal at $14,000 off the sticker price. Never thought I would be upside down on this car.

sorry to say Aimee but yes you should have researched what you were getting into ... this car is affordable to get into but not out of. its a toy car for toy car nuts but as a result comes with the reality that it is high maintenance and hard to sell due to the chrysler badging on a otherwise great vehicle. lux tourer market (its far from sport car out of srt trim i guess) is very sensitive about the chrysler heritage. hell i'm a chrysler fanatic and i am touchy about its chrysler heritage with the crappy service they give it.
the way i see it is ... don't try to fix one mistake with another. do what you have to keep the car and keep it for the long haul. this car should last you a good 15 years if taken care of properly at which point it will have earned its cost. sell the zx2 for 2k that it is worth and put it away to the XF payment fund and do not touch it for anything other than your monthly payment. the ZX will sell quick to some high school kid in need of a first car ... parents love ZX/neon/cavy as first cars for their kids. i know, i had a neon...
but just keep in mind what you are trying to do .... getting rid of a car you cannot afford is a bandaid fix for the problem at hand. you will lose so much money its not even mentionable to me ... and end up driving a ZX as your lesson learned still paying off the XF loss.
sell the ZX ... make a car fund. bust your behind working 3 jobs if you need ... been there done that ... you're young, if there is ever a time to work your *** off its now.
best of luck but i know luck isn't what you're in need of ... just some really hard work to get through this tough time.
