which is better
which do yall think is better? I have a red '04 xfire (manual tranny) while my friend has a white '05 xfire limited edition (auto tranny). We are trying to decide which one of ours is better? tell us your opinion.
If you're stuck in bad traffic for a couple hours then the automatic is the best. If you're on a twisty canyon road then the manual is the best. So the question is, where do you think you'll spend the most time with the car? Pick the trans that works best in that (primary) situation.
Or get the manual box just because it's more fun!!

I grew up in Europe and have been used to driving with a stick shift. I used to think that it was a sin to drive a sports car with an auto in it. The auto in the crossfire is so good though and you can slap stick your shifts I have to say I find it better then the manual. I have driven both and was not too impressed with the stick version of the crossfire. I didn't buy the first one I drove because of the stick. After reading about the auto trans and hearing good things I test drove one and now I am a crossfire owner. I guess its a matter of preference but to me I just thought that the manual 6 speed didn't measure up to the quality of the chassis, motor and suspension. While the Auto seems better suited to the whole package. Its hard to find fault with a 5 speed auto from mercedes. The only gripe I can say is that when you are sifting in manual mode the up/down shifts could happen faster.
i have an '04 and its auto. i prefer that cuz its better on gas and its performance is a lil better. like i raced my friends stick '06 and i beat his by half a car and hes a pro off-road driver. so i'd go with auto. but its mostly on what you prefer.
I think I have to agree with everyone here. lol They are both crossfires, so they are both great. Why not take them to the track and do a few runs with each other and see which one takes the cake? I think the auto will take more punishment than the manual, which is backwards to most lines of thinking, but the auto is what they use in the SRT.
My deciding factor to choose manual shifting vehicles is determined by the cost of replacing an automatic trans. vs replacing a clutch. I have never had to replace a clutch in any vehicle that I have owned. Two have been driven to over 150k miles.
I hope to keep my Crossfire for many years. I can only imagine what it would cost to replace the auto. transmission out of my pocket. Thats why I had no problem getting the 6-speed. Of course, I have a base model, so I had no choice.
I try to keep my cars well past the expiration date of the warranties. I have seen so many people having problems with auto. transmissions in every make of car. The repair costs seem to average $3500. To top it off, the problems always seems to happen just past the warranty coverage. Most recently, a buddy of mine just spent $3800 to replace a trans. on his 2005 Blazer with 38000 miles. Warranty ended at 36k miles ( his was bought before the GM 100k mile warranty ). GM did chip in $1200.
Now that new XFs come with the lifetime Powertrain warranty, my fears of an auto. would be reduced. Although, I would always be concerned about Chrysler's future.
What may be the best reason of all for buying manuals is that my wife never wants to drive the Crossfire.
Also, it is found that some amateur thieves try to steal manual cars only to find that they cannot drive them.

As for which is better, it's purely a personal choice. I prefer to "drag race" with an automatic, but I enjoy "driving" a sports car with a manual tranny.
Usually, which ever cars "title" has my name on it, that's the "better" one.: p
