12 Sparkplugs!!! Did you know this?
I just found out a interesting detail about our cars. They have 2 sparkplugs per cylinder. Each pair of plugs has its own coil. I discovered this on the German SLK forum www.mbslk.de . I happen to speak German so I was able to take a look at the postings. They have some excelent information on the Motor including pictures and detailed instructions. I am probably the only one who didn't know about the sparkplugs but I thought I would post it anyhow just in case this wasn't common knowledge.
Good that you found out. It has been posted here before though. Still good to pass around any knowledge you find as you never know what is new.

Yes, 12 effing spark plugs! You know why? Because it's a sports car. 2 spark plugs per cylinder ensure all the fuel is ignited accounting for fuel economy, and performance. No spare tire? That is called weight savings. What to do? How about using the included sealant and air pump or calling road side assistance.
It's called doing research before buying! Don't get pi$$ed that you purchased a refined sports car with over engineering and weight savings just because you probably thought it was cheap. These cars were expensive, luxury sports cars that command luxury maintenance costs. That is why I didn't purchase mine as an economy car. It is a weekend toy and something to stare at while tooling around the garage. If you want an economy car and a spare tire and cup holders and whatever else, go get a Hyundai!
Sorry for the sarcasm, but I get tired of seeing ridiculous posts where people discover that their 17000 dollar bargain car is actually expensive to operate and maintain. Hello, the SRT6 was 50 grand when new. The other ones hovered in the mid to upper 30s.

Well sorry to burst your balloon, but I've had many Porsches and other sports cars over the years, and they cost a WHOLE lot more than the xfire. They had 6 plugs, got the same MPG and had a spare. I didn't buy this car as a economy type car, I bought it because of its looks, nothing more. At 50k, the srt is way overpriced, if anyone is stupid enought to pay that. The public has shown how much they admire and demand this car, because the prices are dropping like the Dow Jones in 1929. I doubt that anyone who buys a Chrysler, would even ask how many plugs it had, because they always had 4-6-or 8 in all their cars. But, I'm sorry, its a Mercedes Benz. Its hard to give these cars away at any price. But, like I said, I still like it.
When the x-fire has the reputation of a Porsche, get with me and we'll talk about sports cars.

no spare tire because you would need two as the rims and tires are different from front to back and it gives the car a unique look which is worth much more than a spare tire and 12 plugs.. that is nothing new mercedes has been doing this long before the crossfire and will be doing this long after crossfire.. what I still don't understand is what the germans were thinking with the cup holder? maybe they all had specific german cups and made the cup holder specifically for those cups..

Well that and the XFire retain at least a portion of its blue book value: The bumper to bumper warranty will not replace a part if the repair will cost more than the cash value of the car

Wow, seems that people are a little touchy when it comes to the crossfire. My girlfriend just bought an 04 with 9K miles and we are finding out a lot on the car. I own all American cars so this one is a little different. I know that it has an American brand on it but this is not an American car. She just wanted something that was different and looked nice. Since the prices of these are so low it made a nice fit. I was a little shocked to find out that it requires as much oil as my Viper LOL and 2 more spark plugs. It does not bother me in the least. I do wish parts were a little more reasonable but that is the cost we pay.
Here is a link to my site with my cars and girlfriend.

Who is to say what is overpriced????
My father who was a collecter paid well over value, for cars he wanted, it like art, if you love it and can afford it, why not..
If you can't Maybe sell it to some who loves the car more then you.....

If you like Porsches so much why don't you sell your XF and go buy one. Most of the Porsches are based on a design that is older than most of our Forum members. I bought my XF because it is basically a MB with drop-dead good looks!
Coupegirl, I dont know where you or anyone got the idea that I could'nt afford this car. I never said anything of the sort. I was just agreeing with the poster that these cars are a little more "different" from most cars. There is no more reason for 2 plugs per cylinder then 1 plug. There is no reason for no spare tire, all cars have them, except the corvette, and then they have run-flats. As far as Porsche's are concerned, I've had many and only one leaked any amount of oil. Its not a big problem with them and most are easily fixed by a backyard wrench. If and when these xfires have any mileage and years on them, then we can talk about reliability and resale value, until them enjoy your ride, I am.
And Fyrepower, yes the 911 design has been around a very long time because it is one of the best there ever was.
