Default Losing Weight - On the Xfire that is.

I know the car is pretty light as is it, but is there any chance of losing any more wieght to increase speed? I cant think of anything to remove that would make a substancial difference.

Change the battery to a low weight battery...40lb loss.
Remove the exhaust resonator (srt-6 not sure if limiteds/bases have one)...10lb loss.

Carbon Fiber driveshaft? Lighterweight wheels? That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

I suppose you could remove the backseat.

I actually lost about 30 lbs when i got my first crossfire, I felt faster... LOL

I have no idea about anything else, maybe your tire repair kit in the back. You don't want to use that crap anyway. If you have a flat just get it towed somewhere. That's what I did after I used that crap for the first time. It does work, it just leaves a mess inside the tire and cost about as much as a 35 mile tow to replace. 54 dollars if I remember right.

There's really no way of lightening the car without destroying the daily driver appearance and functionality / comfort...

There is VERY thick / dense padding, sound deadening material under the front carpet.... Total weight savings would be somewhere around 40-50 lbs....

Carbon Fiber Driveshaft - save 10 lbs
Braille CF Battery - save 40 lbs
Tillett B2 seats with padding, no sliders - save 60 lbs
Toss out emergency kit - save 5 lbs

This gets you close to the torque to weight ratio of a 350z. Of course it will only cost you $2500, but hey, you asked

Of course, you can break out the sawzall, like they did in SCC:

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/fe...ram/index.html

They used weight-saving techniques to bring the 0-60 time of a Sentra SE-R from 8.6 seconds to 5.6 seconds. Vroom!

Other ideas:

Remove passenger seat.
Remove radio.
Go with a smaller gas tank (some weight savings) that holds less gas. Gas weighs approx 6lbs/gallon. Only putting in 4 gallons = 24lbs vs the heaviness of 15.9gallons at 95.5lbs.
Remove a/c compressor to reduce drag on engine.

I'm sure there are lots of other ideas.

Maybe it's just me......but I think it's much easier to just put in less gas than replacing the tank!

On a Jeep, it's just 4 nuts that unscrew and the door s are off (YJ, TJ, & JK series, not sure of the different CJ variants) Something tells me that these doors aren't so easy........

I don't know if there's any structure in the door which can be removed (ask HDDP) - this will obviously reduce stiffness/crash effectiveness etc.
Remove all the EPP under the trunk floormat (and tire kit like others have said) - won't gain you much weight, but you'll be able to carry more.
Plastic shield under the engine.
I'm assuming you want to keep the car looking nice - so removing fog lights may not be an option.
Nitrogen in the tires
Remove a lot of the wiring to things like heated seats - powering the passenger seat (just put it all the way back).

In all honesty I think this topic is ridiculous. I am sure the gain in speed would not be worth the mods by taking apart a piece of finely crafted engineering design. But if you find the need to do such a foolish thing then this link may help you destroy your car from it's original beauty.......

Have any "gold" fillings removed from your teeth, take a laxative, remove all jewelry, and brush your teeth. Take some ipacac,
donate some blood, bone marrow, and a kidney,
Then cut off all your body hair, and drive NAKED!

Okay, a little over kill guys. I guessed there wasnt much to lose based on how small the car was, plus I dont wanna lose comfort, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. guess I was wrong.
