Default The perfect engine swap ?

Check this out...

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...023/LATESTNEWS

M-Benz continues to upgrade the current generation SLK !

New version of the 3.5 DOHC boasts 300 Hp and a 7200 rpm red line.

Now That's A SPORTS CAR ENGINE !

Think how much fun a Crossfire would be with that kind of power; If DCX had upgraded the Crossfire's drive train during it's production run to keep up with the rest of the competition in the sports car market it would have assured the car's performance credibility and I'm sure sales would have been much better. I'd LOVE to have the current generation SLK's motor in my Crossfire...

Uh, Slim, I believe that's what they call an SRT-6. Oops. No, the SRT has more power and torque. And, yes, it IS really fun to drive.

I saw this article in my Autoweek too...thought same thing, ie., if only Chrysler had kept the Crossfire current with the SLK....or even just one gen back...

Anyway, check out all the buttons on boths sides of the Nav Screen - assuming this controls nav radio and other functions but everytime I see a car with that many buttons it makes me want to experience a i-Drive in a BMW to see if it is as bad as most magazines say it is. It can't be any worse than barrelling down the road at 80MPH and trying to hit a tiny button to "call up" the radio....

bflinn, you hit the nail on the head! I HATE tiny buttons on the dash or stereo or whatever. Why do they do that? It's like they're trying to make us wreck!

Okay, call me the odd duck here, but that sounds okay? I was reading an article the other day about MB's new diesel that had a torque band out of this world and good horsepower, turbo charged and the whole ordeal. Maybe I'm the only diesel fan out here, but I thought that would be neat to put into the xfire, minus the weight balance change.

I don't think it's odd of you to think this way because I happen to agree. BMW sells a turbo diesel version of the 3 Series in Europe that performs very similarly to the 330i yet gets far bet fuel ecomony. Audi offers a diesel in the A8 with bags of torque and crazy fuel ecomony for a car in this class - Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear did a test of this vehicle where he tried to squeeze something in excess of 400 miles out of a tank and managed to do so. He loved the thing. And if Audi can win Le Mans two years running with a diesel powered prototype sports car then I don't think we're too far off seeing more of this technology in the near future.

Too bad GM killed American's taste for diesel in the 1980's by converting all those 350CID V8 gas engines to diesel and belching smoke all over suburbia!!

Oh, I hear ya infrared. I'm all about the shifting too, but I couldn't resist the call of the SRT after I had driven both. Aside from the cup holder, the auto tranny is my only complaint about the car.

If the SRT was a stick I would have gotten one. They missed the mark on this car big time. It needed a 300+hp engine and a 6 speed. Now I just have to find a way to get to 300+hp in mine. .

That's easy, buy an SRT, then put a 6 speed tranny in it. the limited's tranny probably won't cut it. So you'd probably need to go custom or try to find another Mercedes tranny that would fit.
