I think I get a STP one for about $12 from AutoZone...I really wouldn't recommend going to a stealership for anything regarding fluid change, unless it's the transmission

Hey, Houston1, I got a Wix at AdvanceAuto for under $15 if I remember correctly. Wix are supposed to be pretty good.

By the way, I'm out in Cypress. Did you see the other post yesterday about a local Houston based group trying to get started?

Just checked the price at the parts counter, list price on a factory filter is $23.00. I'd probably stick with the factory filter, but I'm sure there's cheaper ones out there. You could also not use the recomended oil and save even more money! Then you could put on some 17" wheels and be able to save a bunch on tires! Run the old filter through the solvent tank, and then you could re-use it! Oh wait, just don't change the oil! That would save you the cost of the oil and filter!

Sorry, just really bored at work waiting for 8:00 to get here.

If you would like to order one we have 5 in stock. Call the parts dept M-F 9:00-6:00 at 419-227-0202. Not sure about shipping costs though.

tod, thats funny but seriously. I know there are so many posts on here that are pages of people arguing back and forth as to whether the OEM part is better than the aftermarket. All I will say is that when I changed my oil in July, the $13 purolator I put in my car was identical to the OEM filter. Granted the OEM filter was not the new "fleece" type. Nevertheless I am sure paper filters will be just fine if you change you're oil at scheduled intervals. From what I have heard the fleece filters are supposed to last longer. But at 7k miles between oil changes I'm not too worried.

The guy went to the dealer because our cars take the fleece filter not the $13 paper ones at the aftermarket stores. I paid $22 at the Chrysler dealer. The MB dealer wanted $26 for the exact same filter. If you don't use the recomended filter you might as well buy $1.89 store brand oil and not the required Mobil 1 synthetic oil, right? ...........newbies........

Oh Boy ... Another thread to debate oil filters.
The right kind the wrong kind the cost $8,$12,$15,$22.$33 and on and on and on. Paper , Fleece , OEM , non OEM etc etc etc

How-a-bout no oil filter at all ?? Has that been discussed here yet ??

Sorry but this subject has been beat to death on so many threads and nobody will ever have the same opinion. As to the original question "How much are you paying" If you have to ask it's to much and yes $39.46 is to much.
If you have not installed it take it back. If you have installed it go buy a jar of vaseline, you got raped.

I still don't understand how the car originally was manufactured with the paper one and yet somehow it is no longer kosher to use a paper filter. The paper filter was endorsed by Mercedes/Chrysler for years before the fleece filter was implemented. So no its not the same as using $1.89 oil because the car originally called for full synthetic mobil 1 and never varied from that, whereas the car originally came with a paper filter and varied to a fleece one.

I still think my first responce was the most creative and funny. I just get a kick out of how if someone paid $40-$50,000 for one of these cars new, they would never use aftermarket parts and probably had it dealer serviced. But if you got a good deal last year, you're heading to Pick-N-Save. It's still the same car. It deserves more than its getting.

Factory filters should cost between $20-$25 at the dealer. If you're paying more than that, someones taking advantage.

I think they changed it so avatar only shows on the first post or something? Anyway I have an early '04 and they were still putting paper filters in them at that time.

K&N, best filtration in the industry and used where paper would be destroyed in milliseconds "racing tested and proven" application, heck maybe I should ask them for a cut ...lol

Do you have any information on a Houston XF club? If so, let me know.

The local Spokane Chrysler Dealer here now wants over $30 for the fleece oil filter, and $130 for an oil change. The Mercedes Dealer sells the same filter for $19.99, and does the oil change for $85.99. That's about the cost of the oil and filter if you do it yourself. The service manager at Mercedes told me that's just something they are willing to do for their customers, and not really making anything at all. Also, I confirmed that price is good for the Crossfire. I bought a filter and walked away with a good customer service feeling. So, far I have done my own oil changes, but will give them a try when I run out of oil.
