hi i"m a new member but i don't own an xfire just yet. i will soon though. i have one that i'm looking at that i think i can get a good deal on. i was hoping some of the experts on this forum could look at it and give me their advice. from the pictures i can see it will need at least one new fender and a new front bumper. i don't know how easy it to get these parts or how expensive it would be to buy them. well i'm open for sugggestions and advise..thanks for the help.

i think i might have seen coony's car then parked at areofit a couple weeks ago. the car is in an auction in oregon but runs and drives well. i'm not sure if the damage to the car may be worse than it looks or not. hoping to get good advise. thanks. right now i drive an 88 crx so i understand 2 seater life. this will be a considerable step up for me.

Do you know where in Oregon? I am in the Portland area. From the pics it looks like it needs LOTS of front end work. If you get it cheap enough it MIGHT be worth what you will have to put into it.

I don't recommend it.. unless you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.. and know the costs.. or have a hobby of repairing damaged vehicles..

don't take this the wrong way, but i am just looking out for your best intrests, at the rates that crossfires are selling today.. if you are unable to afford them... then you simply won't be able to afford the maintanace costs.. an oil change for example is $70 if done youself around 120$ if dealer done, tires are around $1000, unless you skimp on them, premium fuel is a must, among other exepnse... the repairs wont be cheap either, I can't tell what is damaged from those pictures, but it looks like door, fender and bumper minimum...

if the above does not scare you than pull the trigger

Varsity Ford has this red 2004 XF for $16,625. I am sure you could talk them down though. I talked to the sales manager last week at Starbucks. He said it is at the small lot off of 21 I think. Anyway, i don't really think you should buy the wrecked one. It looks like a money pit. IMO. This is the car:

well i was thinking of offering no higher than 5000 forthe car. i do fix cars as a hobby but don't really like doing body work very much. i'm not scared of maintainence costs but 80 for a do it yourself oil change does surprise me. do you have to buy mercedes specific oil? why does it cost so much. thank for all the advice.

Welcome aboard!

You should be able to pick up a limited in good shape for $10-12K, SRT for $17-22K

For the record - although oil-changes are $70/80, you don't have to change it as often (Usually ~7000 according to the computer that tells you when to change.)

So, don't look at the oil change cost as if it's a bad thing...it's actually not much more than 'normal' cars.

The damage looks minor and the airbags are good. ( like someone ran off the road ) If you can get it for 5000 that sounds like a good deal. Just saw a wrecked one on EBAY for 4000 and it was hit hard, both bags blown. If you do go for it, get an SRT front bumper. Looks like an easy fix.

I unfortunately did something similar to this with my Intrepid by catching a small ditch on a curve. Pulled out of the right hand side went to the left and back over to my side of the road. Messed up the left front corner like this CF. I was able to drive it home but when the shop and insurance looked at it, it had a crease from front to back in the undercarriage. Totaled. Granted the Intrepid is not a MB.

8 quarts Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic oil avg. cost $6 per quart = $48 (Walmart)
1 Oil Filter $4 to $24 depending on where you buy

Oil Changes typically every 7000 miles

i can imagine the repairs needed will put you within 2-3k of the price of a clean titled crossfire. i thought the resale value was bad on our cars; i can't even imagine what a salvage-titled one would go for (assuming this is a salvage title). i don't know if it is worth it.
on the other hand, somebody has got to fix that thing and get it back on the road.

are there any good places to get body part that you know of? the only ones i have seen are completly new and you have to buy all the trimmings as well as the part. such as: with the fender you have to buy the chrome, badging, inner fender, wheel lip, and all the hardware seperate. i would rather buy a used fender that comes with all the trimmings. is there a chrysler specific salvage yard that anyone knows about? can't wait to get on the road in one of these!!!!thanks for the info about the oil changes. i can handle mobil 1 oil; been using it for years.
