That ( 20 or 80) is the temp in C that the fluid is being measured at.
Hot or Cold!

so the fact the I am in MTL in cold weather.. what should it be at? thanks

No, no, no. It would be the temp of the FLUID. If you've been driving for more than 30 minutes, the fluid temp should be...hot (~80)

If you walk out in the morning and you experience extreme shrinkage the fluid temp should be...cold. (~20).

I think (I haven't checked) that the fluid is supposed to be warmed-beween 20 and 80 deg C.
