Can I get a few 6 speed owners to try something for me?
When I let my cluth out from a stand still, I hear a pop or bang coming from the center/rear of the car.
It happens usually in 1st or 1st to second and happens if you press or let the clutch out moderate to quickly.
The techs either don't hear anything or describe it as normal due to no play in the drive line.
Do other manual owners let he same noise

My roadster is a 6-speed, and I've never heard anything like you describe. Would a worn U-joint produce that type of noise in some circumstances? Is there slack in the ring and pinion? Is there something in your glove box, center console, or trunk that's bouncing around?

I never get that from a standstill but sometimes get some driveline noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd while pulling onto my street. But it's a fairly steep incline and I know it's totally dependant on how I disengage the clutch, where my throttle position is when I do so, etc. My Miata would do something similar under the same circumstances. In either car though, this was the ONLY time I would ever hear something that didn't sound completely "normal".
Hey ....I know what you are talking about , I also have heard that from my car, like they say above it seems to be particular to the possision of the gas as well as the speed in wich you dis engage the clutch, I notice it as soon as I drove it from the dealer, but like you mentioned the tech guy said he does not hear anything, .........i just try not to shift too hard so i can avoid hearing that "pop" ............I know our shifts are a little notchy but some times that sound makes me think somthing is not right .....look into it and let us know about it ! good luck!

I may have experienced this "pop" a few times myself. Although mine was more of a pop feel and not so much a pop sound. However there was a small amount of noise.
Each time I attributed it to a bad shift on my part( too quick on releasing the clutch ). The two or three times its happened to me was when I was accelerating quickly and trying to shift quickly as well.
My Crossfire's clutch has the smallest sweetspot of any manual that I have owned. It seems to engage within a 1/2 inch of clutch pedal travel after it starts to engage (not a 1/2 inch from the floor) . I assumed that this was a good german engineering thing. However it does makes it difficult to achieve a silky smooth shift from 1st to 2nd at times.
Of course, it doesn't help that my daily driver has a clutch that seems to take 3-4 inches of pedal movement to engage a gear. I always attributed the difference in the pedal feel to my lack of smoothness if I haven't driven the Crossfire for a while.
Until I hear grinding or feel any slipage, I am unconcerned. Now if it also begins to happen under normal conditions, I will begin to worry.

thanks for the replies.
As a few of you have said it defineatly related to how fast I let the clutch out.
I did get a tech to hear it with me by quickly letting the clutch in and out in 1st but I got the normal response.
