Downside to cutting off rear tow hook?
Being a new owner, I have yet to take a good look under this car. Is there anything else under the car capable of withstanding a tow if I remove the rear hook?

When I had my car flatbedded to the dealer, (nearly 3 months ago) the flatbed driver wouldn't even use the hook. He said they aren't supposed to trust them. I believe he placed the hooks on the suspension. Before I got my car back I had the alignment checked just to make sure they didn't get anything out of wack.
Actually, I think the only reason for the hook is to secure the car during it's Atlantic sea voyage.

+firemax,
You are correct the tow hooks are used primarily for securing the vehicle during shipping. Either on a ship or truck... they can be used to secure the car down on a flatbed too.
BUT, they are also used a lot at the track if you go off track and happen to bend a rim or have some other light damage, they just hook a tow rope to your hook and pull you into the pits.
Cheers!
