Wing Comes on starting engine
Have searched and found quite a bit on the forums about the wing though could not find anything about this issue. Every time I start the car the wing comes up. Anyone come across this problem? Or is there a setting which I have accidently pressed... maybe I turned the lights one while pressing the break pedal, turned the radio to FM and poked my tongue out.
And before FP asks I did do an oil change today though I didn't put any Viagra in....

this is the most logical reasoning. either that wind changed direction while the wing was up, and it will be like that forever.
both plausible.
Mine did that when ever the battery was low or when the fuel pump module was going on my 04. Try checking the voltage level of the battery before you start it.

I will check the voltage and the alternator as it might not be delivering enough charge the battery. Hmmmmm where is my multimeter... I can see a spring clean out of the shed coming up.
If you manually raise the wing and dont manually bring it down and hold the button till it beeps it will deploy untill you do (just try it)
Harleyracefan has hit the nail on the head, despite the other posting, I respectfully agree with this guy.
You need to shut down the radio and listen for the beep when you put the wing down.
Good Luck, Rick

Mine has done the same thing, after testing the battery and resetting the codes it came up on its own again. After they interpreted the code the dealer recently replaced the ECU under warranty- however,
It has done it again last week as a matter of fact, I have noticed my Xfire starting a little slowly in the AM, my battery is stock with a put in service date of October 2006, plus the time it sat somewhere, so the battery maybe in need of replacement.
It is still under warranty so I plan on letting the dealer know that the wing came up on its own again.
Mine won't reset until I shut it off, and then restart; at that time it will manually let me lower it until it beeps off and then it operates automatically as intended.
Thanks
Don

The wing goes up in times of weak battery as a self protect feature. Theory behind it is that should you have a slow/no crank in winter the wing will go up so that it is not frozen closed should the vehicle start.
If you have an auto trans, and the wing is not functioning, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) will signal the PCM to go into "Limp-In" mode, this limits RPM and gear selection (2nd or 3rd gear max) as to not damage the car too much. Many things can cause the vehicle to go into Limp mode so I can't give you a list.

Ok.. I think both trains of thought are correct, though specifically in my case it looks like it was the battery. It eventually died yesterday and did not crank at all. I have it on the charger now though I used the hygrometer and it looks like one of the cells may be dead.
Time for a new battery if this cell does not resurrect... which I think it won't.
Thanks for all replies. The wing started coming up on start around two weeks ago so anyone who has this happen even after the manual wing reset till you hear a beep.... take it as a warning sign that your battery is struggling to keep charge.
Cheers and thanks

Just thought I would finalise this thread. I had to buy a new battery, $265AUD later. The other battery was the original and apparently they should only get around 4 years max life anyway according to battery guy. I didn't buy an orginal went for a standard brand battery buggered if I can remember the name. Only thing which made it expensive by 50 bucks was the height. The $210 one was not as high, this was the only difference I could tell.
Anyhoooo battery dying... Wing will start popping up when you start the motor !!
