Default National Speed Limit!!

I was watching the news, when a banner ran across the screen indicating Senator Warner from VA., will be sponsoring a bill to reinstitute the national speed limit of 55 mph to save gas!

I did not realize we had a shortage...in any event if you, like me, think this is a bad idea, write your Senator ASAP, and voice your opinion.

If people want to save gas, let them slow down as some folks out here in "fly over country" are already doing. Otherwise leave it alone. We all know 55 is nothing more then a revenue generator.

MOD: I posted this in the Politics thread also, but wanted to get the information out to people who may not read Politics. If this is the wrong area, please move or delete. Thanks.

It should be left lane no limit right lane 70 on all interstates. You shouldnt worry theres no way in hell that will actually happen. There is no shortage on gas. lowering the speed limit from 75 to 55 on busy interstates would cause something called traffic and that uses a lot of gas.

The last time it was lowered it didn't save gas - it did a few more lives, but not gas.

AND... Cars since the 90's have been geared for 65, so 55 would actually be using more gas. It's TRUE!

If you have a trip computer on your car that gives you an instant reaading of MPG find highway with a good lengh of it being level and drive 55 looking at what MPG you're getting and then do the same at 65. I'm sure 65 will yield a better MPG.

Our Crossfires don't have one, I put a SCAN GAUGE one on my PT that plugs into the OBD II port connector and I get 22-24 MPG at 55 MPH but at 65 MPH I get 25-27 MPG.

The SCAN GUAGE is supposed to work on just about any car - doesn't work on the crossfire.

I would rather invest my saving in Euro dollars intead of metals, as there is no way for me to hedge against any price drops in the gold and silver market.

Anyone know a way I can do this? what's a simple way to transfer my accounts into euros?

I think we may see a 55 mph speed limit next year. So this year I'm burning up the best roads in the west. Anyone ever been through Shell Canyon Wy? Well I have a few more states to go. More pic's when I get home.

Simple answer is: Don't do it. Unless you are an international finance kinda guy, you are better off sticking with the US dollar, and looking for safe, long term investments in the USA. Talk to a professional financial adviser as to how best to protect your money.

Now let's get back to driving our Crossfires!

Is a ticket that much more expensive at ~3x the speed limit vs 2x? I've touched 140-150 a few times.

I think the license vaporizes and you go to jail in any case.

Guys,
Rest easy as there will be no 55 MPH speed limit next year. Oil will be at $60.00 a barrel or less because of the glut of oil from the Chineese wells off our east coasts.
Walmart will be selling it a $1.99 per gallon.

If you get caught doing 85 mph in Montana on the interstates, it's a five dollar cash fine. You pay the cop in cash for wasting resources, and nothing goes on your record. Your insurance won't go up. this all changes if the speed limit returns to 55. The Democrats are already pushing for this and Obama has said he supports it. All this means, if you like to go fast but not to jail, this could be the last summer you have. That is what I decided to do. If I am wrong I can do it again next year. If I am right, no regrets. I did what I could when I could. Montana has some interesting traffic laws that they do not advertise. Look up passing or safe and reasonable. Right car, right conditions, right cop. Who knows how fast you can go. Montana state patrol officers are there to help and keep things safe (wish this was true in my home state) not raise tax dollars. Just make sure you do it during the day and not at night. If you speed it in a construction area or drive drunk you will get all you deserve. If you are driving some piece of crap with bald tires or you're driving over you head and endangering people you're screwed and should be.

Sorry to go on so long.

Somewhere west of Laramie.
