Squeak, rattle and roll thread
Squeak, rattle and roll thread
Have you ever taken your car in to the dealer to have them fix a noise, and then get the car back with the same noise still there, or found additional noises after their poking around the car ?
I thought this would be a useful thread to start, to have everyone log their experiences with annoying squeaks, rattles, thumping noises. This shared information will be useful when we are at the dealer or DIY underneath the car. Here's the criteria proposed:
1. Type of noise
a. From the bodywork (inside passenger area, dash, console, seats or outside)
b. From chassis components (suspension, exhaust, or brakes)
c. Convertible mechanism
2. Resolution
a. What the cure entailed
b. By dealership? (time and expense)
c. DIY? (time and expense)
Don't worry if you haven't resolved the noise yet hopefully this thread will condense enough information that you'll find the solution you seek. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Re: Squeak, rattle and roll thread
1. An obnoxious soft-sounding squeak (sounds like a mouse).
a. From the interior - driver seat. I have heard people complain about seatbelt squeak but I have determined that this is not the cause. It seems to be coming from directly under the seat and essentially makes the squeaking noise whenever I move my butt.
Fix: None as of yet but am going to check it out this week when I install my new speakers. Will update...

Re: Squeak, rattle and roll thread
My steering wheel squeaks when it turns sometimes and drives me nuts. The source of the sound is visible, the plastic shroud around the column is not fitting together as tightly as it should and rubs against the inside of the wheel. The dealership claimed they fixed it, but it made no difference at all.
Has anyone else had this noise and successfully fixed it?

Re: Squeak, rattle and roll thread
I have a squeak that appears to come from near my right ear (convertible top up or down) - right hand drive so near the outside of the car - and only when I accelerate, not maintaining my speed.
No idea what is causing it - just bloody annoying!
My grandfather was the Chief Mechanic with British Motor Corporation (BMC) Competitions Department during the late 50s, 60s and early 70s (Healeys, MGAs and Minis). His advice for strange noises was to turn your radio up - worry about it when it breaks!

Re: Squeak, rattle and roll thread
1) I have a clicking sound intermittently heard coming from the passengers feet vent. The dealer tried to tell me its the cooling fan for the computer or fuse box. I think their full of it and has something to do with the vent.
2) Creak coming from near the seatbelts. Panel over the seatbelt is creaky. Have yet to bring this up to the dealer. Seems to have started only a month or so ago.
3) Back hatch rattle.
Fix: Adjust bumpers on side of hatch door out as far as they go but keep so they hit flat with the frame.
