2005 Coupe Clutch died less than 800 miles
Bought car Friday of last week with 160 miles on it. Tuesday of this week driving to hardware store all of the sudden could not shift anymore. Clutch pedal still depressed and returned to normal position. No sound no burning smell just appeared clutch was no longer disengaging. Managed to get off the road and had to have the car towed to dealership. I talked to the dealer today and they are replacing the pressure plate and the throw out bearing. Whats up with this ? I would never have expected to of had this problem, especially so soon.
I have driven many manuals and never had this problem. I have searched the forum and seen some issues but have not seen what the root cause is. Can someone enlighten me? Oh by the way I am new to this forum. Hello from another noobie.

I've got 49,000 miles on my 05 and haven't had any problems and have been reading this forum for a while and can't recall this being a big issue.
Good luck with the repairs and hope you get her back real soon... and Welcome to the forum

It's not uncommon for a car that has sat around for 3 years and with only 160 miles on it for the bearings and seals to fail. Parts that need to stay lubricated tend to dry out after sitting for a long time.

Thanks for the responses. Curious what the dealer will have to say. I really expected them to to tell me the Clutch master or the Slave had gone out. Car is supposed to be ready today.
I actually had the clutch on a brand new chevy completely disintegrate when I worked at a dealer years ago. All of the clutch material just fell off the disk in a million pieces! Defective part.
Service advisor had his head up his badonka donk. Tech only ordered the bearing and pressure plate in case he needed them. Jury is still out on what actually failed. I will repost when I get some valid info.
Sorry to hear about your trouble. When I first read about your problem, it sounded just like when I broke a clutch pedal cable on an old Ford Mustang I had. But I doubt that was your problem, as you'd probably feel it snap.
Anyway, I agree with robby363. When a car sits that long, bad things happen. That didn't stop me from buying my 2005 Crossfire that had been sitting for 2 years. The first time it rained, the wiper blades disintegrated! The rubber had dry rotted. Of course, I put new blades on - no big deal. But that made me worry about all the other seals and rubber parts. So I took it to a trusted mechanic and told him what happened and had him check over everything he could easily get at. Fortunately, there weren't any other issues.
If you think the dealer isn't up to snuff, then I would advise taking it to a mechanic that you trust - just to have the other seals and rubber parts checked.

Picked up car on Friday. Dealer replaced clutch plate and throw out bearing. Shifter may need some adjustment. Seems to not always want to drop into second. Anyway it appears clutch plate came apart.
im having somewhat of a problem with mine. the car seems to make a squealing sound every morning when i first start driving it for the day and somtimes when it sits to long. my buddy is a mechanic said its probably the the throw out bearing? havent taken it in yet but im going to mention it when i go in for my next oil change. after the first 1or 2 shifts the sound goes away??
Got 2nd gear "scratch" in mine today ....barely trying....the "old lady" thought that was pretty cool. Pretty easy I guess if you're not hardly wound out in first.
Stopped at a Chrysler dealership today......God, they still had about a dozen new '07s & a few '08s. Found one that was only 4 VINs from mine....

You must be a young'un. My 69 will pull scratches thru 4th and in 5th she's fly'in to the moon. I have not pulled any scratches in my Crossfire yet, scared I might break her. Already broke her once. Thought I might break her in a little this time around.
I love the car but still on the fence.
