Sounds like it may be one of the common problems I've found on this site. Could be the relay control module.
Go here https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=27288

Gives the part number and cost. Seems to be cheaper from the MB guys'.
Do a search on "relay control module" and you will see the symptoms are similar to yours.

Good luck, report back if that's it.

(it is)

Some have had luck giving the ecu a good rap. This might jog it enough to get it running and bring it home.
Worth a shot and doesn't cost anything.

Have him open the hood, find the relay control module containment over by the battery and give it a good whack with the handle of a screwdriver or something with similiar weight and mass. This may get him home. I would definetly look into replacing the RCM !

Just my Dos Centavos

Have your brother check to see if the keyless remote is working: Sounds like a dead battery in the remote. If so, have him change the remote battery and reprogram the key fob as described many times in the forum. The car probably won't start because it doesn't recognize the key. TBW
