HI,
I was trying to put by Xfire away for the winter today but every time I disonnected the battery the alarm started to go off. Wow, that was loud - I'd never even heard the alarm before... and the bloody thing goes off even with no battery power! I guess it has it's own power supply.. not a stupid thing.. but does anyone know how to remove the battery without having the alarm go off while you're doing it? I store the car in a storage facility and I won't have any access until March or April.. I really want to take out the battery so that I can charge it again before trying to start the car next Spring.

Just sad to hear that the car will be so lonely until spring. You don't even go turn her on sometimes?
You have to at least scratch her back!!

 

I replaced the battery last weekend and no alarms. It was out for about an hour. I took the red cable off first if that makes any difference.

 

NO scratching allowed. Only gentle stroking......hmmmm...where was I? Hey Irene....

I know that the alarm has it's own battery.
Try this and tell us if it works. Disconnect main battery then use your key to lock/unlock the car door.
Did the alarm go off?

 

Good point. Maybe the car was locked when he did it. Mine was unlocked when I replaced the battery.

 

Hmmmm... the car was definitely locked when I disconnected the battery - I wanted it to be locked for the winter, of course. I also hit every button on the key many times trying to silence it. But I should be able to take out the battery with the driver door unlocked and then lock it manually with the key (as long as the passenger door is already locked). I'll go back next weekend and try that!

As for scratching her back... when the last car goes into the the facility, it gets locked up and alarmed until the snow melts. I won't be able to see her again 'till April.

 

Perhaps turn the tow alarm off?

Personally, I don't recommend pulling the battery because if you let it sit until spring without starting it most likely you will have a hell of a lot of lifter noise when you start it up in the spring. This will be the fifth winter my car will have been in storage; it goes in to storage in October and I usually bring it out in April. The first year I stored the car without a battery charger on it so I started it every month and let it get to full operating temperature before shutting it off and never had an issue. The second winter I started using a battery charger so I left the car sit idle all winter and when I started it that spring the oil had run off the lifters and it took about 10 minutes before the lifters noise went away. So since that second season I start the car once a month and let it run for until it reaches temperature, which takes about 10 minutes, and I have never had any lifter noise since.

 

ill tell you now locking is the problem. and its a xfire. try to lock the passanger side and not the driver and tell me what happens then u will know why i smile. also try and lock it with the door opened. But yes your problem is going to be that the car is in lock down. close the center console and sit in your car. lock it then open eaither your center console or your glove box. another fun way to hear the alarm.

 

The counsal and glove box alarms are on both the roadster AND the coupe?

 

yes sir. mine has gone off soo many times. and from what i hear the little change thing does it too. i have not had that happen to me yet.

now do u have a coupe or a roadster while saying that. because on my coupe it goes off.

 

I have a coupe and a roadster. The console on the roadster locks and alarms so it can be secured while the top is down.

 

Glove box only on the coupe.

Also found out that the radio will play once the key is out. New one on me.

 

well yes that makes sence but in my coupe i have had it happen also. i will test it tonight again to make me make sure im not thinking wrong but i am 99 percent positive opening my consule has set my alarm off.

 

Ya ^^^ That one seems odd, it plays for about 45 minutes then turns off without a key. I guess its so you can leave a kid or something in the car with the key out or something, not sure.

 

What were you doing in your Crossfire to find that out?

 

I'll give you a hint, Barry Manilow was playing... LOL JK, naw, I was polishing my headlights and had music playing. Its funny that the radio works without the key but the brake lights dont.
