idler pulley failed big time

Default idler pulley failed big time

so has any one else had their idler pulley seize and catch fire ?, when i was driving home sat 2o am the bearings in my idler pulley seized and caught the plastic pulley on fire , my saab viggin had the same problem over and over again as do most saab owners , this being said there are a few people making aluminum pulleys for saab's does any one make them for the crossfire ?

i've had to have mine replaced, it just popped out like some unwanted pregancy...but it was minor, i had fixed for about 40 bucks, but the belt didnt rip....im surprised it caught fire..were u driving so fas that the fan hit it...

There is a plastic idler pulley in the NA cars?? I find that hard to believe....gots pics of the burn up?

Yeah, there is. Mercedes has a recall on them, Im suprised Chrysler didnt recall them for the 112 engines in their cars. If you need a replacement, goto a MB dealer as ask for a 272-202-10-19-05, that is the recall pulley and comes with a new bolt. Its $44.50 list, and made of a better material and a stronger and replacable NSK bearing.

There is a BIG discussion on the Idler bearing failures on the SRT6 section. There is something mentioned about replacement idlers. Maybe that will help you find a good METAL replacement.
