Thanks man, looks like your advice may have been on the money. I have just checked the bulbs and both the dip headlights were not seated correctly. Whoever fitted them must have been brain dead as it is fairly obvious which way they should sit!!
Just waiting patiently for the dark to come to confirm.
Will keep you posted.

I love the light that my stock units project. It's better than my other cars. So hopefully the problem has been resolved. Good luck!

I just replaced my low beam bulbs with H-7 100w super white bulbs. They Seem to be worse than stock 50w bulbs. Its a whiter light , but can not see down the road safely with low beams on. I keep checking to see if lights are even on. Can see about as far with just fog lights on . What is wrong????? Bulbs ARE seated properly and aimed properly.. Low beams are terrible, scarey to drive at night....

What brand bulbs?

Are you 100% positive you seated them right? 99% of forum members 'swear' that their bulbs are in right, when in fact they aren't.

It sounds like they aren't, since they aren't projecting down the road far enough.. can you take a picture of the bulb installed? Also check the front of your lenses - are they cloudy/hazed over?

I just installed Xenesis bulbs on my low beams an fogs. (Thanks Andrew for the tip). These are a nice compromise for anyone who wants to clean-up their stock units without going to HID's. Nice bright white lights. The shot below shows the difference - Xenesis (right), Silverstar Ultras (left). I also put some Xenon's in the eyelids, to complete the set, this is an older pic.

Please excuse the sand blasted headlights, I still need to 3M them. It's a daily driver and they use sand out here in the winter. It tends to be pretty harsh on fog lights and windshields.

I replaced mine with the Silverstars and WOW what a difference from the OEM. I'm hoping that they last longer than what everyone is reporting because I have to use headlight going to and from work.

My biggest problem with the XF lights is due to the short wheelbase. It doesn't take much of an incline to either point the lights down on the road or up in the air off the road. After reading this thread, I have been looking at how the lights project. On my car (low beams), light on the road ends at about 50' but light still projects straight ahead much farther than that. It was foggy this morning so I was able to actually see the beams.

Just some observations...

Truthfully I don't understand why people will spend $$$ on 'silverstar ultras' but won't spend the $70 for the HID Conversion 4300k bulbs, which would provide the maximum light output.

Heck I just bought some off of ebay for $43.
LOVE my HIDs!!! (6000)

Put them in both XF's and the wife's Camry. Son's Scion is next.

What is it those BLACK XF owners say? "Once you go BLACK you won't go back."

Same applies to HIDs!

Oh that saying is for XF's!??! Thought it was... well nevermind.

You should try out 4300k hids in your XF, you will love them 100% more!!! Pure white light that flickers/turns blue from the distance.. it's sexy!! (As opposed to all blue 6000k. I had 6000k, then 5000k, now 4300k and I wouldn't look back!)

I guess I'm confused. (not really surprised)
Isn't HID a high intensity discharge?
Crossfires are not equiped with the proper parts to be a true "hid"
What am I missing?

Conversion kits allow you to use the HIDs.

I Have Silverstar or Silverstar Ultra in every vehicle that I own ( 4 ). In the last 3 years I've only had one of them fail. Maybe I have been lucky so far but for me they seem very reliable. I get them on E-bay for about half of retail. I get poeple that ride with me at night tell me how good they think the headlights are.

Sounds like your bulbs are not installed right.

Smile Re: crap headlights

Has anyone tried the Philips Extreme 80+ bulbs? I have read about them, but have not tried them. They run about $50 US for a pair. Would be nice to hear how they perform in a Crossfire.

Thanks

what brand did you purchase??? There are so many to choose from on ebay, that it makes you wonder what is a decent brand.
