Windshield Replacement Info
In case anybody wants to replace their windshield, you do not have to buy the glass from the dealership. The dealership will want 564 to 800 for the glass itself. The glass is made by a company named Pilkington. It says it on the windshield itself. Make sure the installer buys the glass from a Pilkington dealer and it will be the exact same glass. The only difference is that it will not have a Chrysler logo that says safeguard and the label will be on the passenger right side of the windshield instead. It even comes with a new bracket for the rear view mirror already glued on.
Pilkington DW1540 Windshield
Speaking of the rear view mirror, it was very hard for them to take it off and they scratched the black part of my mirror, really annoying and it was hard for them to put it back on securely.
Overall, parts and labor were 162.38, not bad. I was sick of looking at all those pits when it was very sunny and at night. My registration and inspection stickers were due so it was a good time to do it.

Damn, my local glass place wants $275 to replace mine, plus they said their computer says they might need need trim pieces too. LOL, I highly doubt that second part.
Where are you located? That is a nice price.

I'm in El Paso, TX. What helped is that I was talking to the glass distributor and the installer was buying glass at the time. So the distributor didn't have to deliver the glass and the installer bought it on the spot. I was quoted from 190 to 290 originally by other installers.
Good find... I've been waiting to find out where to get it cheaper than the dealer. I have over 50k miles and a lot of that was long distance freeway driving and some track time on the road course. Looks like I left the poor thing in a sand storm.
It will be good to get the windshield replaced... now if I could only afford to purchase new front clip body pieces. That probably is cheaper than having the nicks filled and the car repainted properly.
Cheers!

Wow, great post! What a price! At 21,000 miles I'm already seeing dings on the windshield & thinking about a new one already. Odd, I've never noticed pits like this on the windshield of any other car I've ever owned??? Maybe some of that was there from new....I just know there's a world of difference between the 07 with 21K on it & the 08 with < 1,000 miles on it.

Here is what happened to mine. Truck threw a rock, made the nice circle on a Monday, was going to get it fixed on Saturday. Well, the temperature dropped into the 30's the next day and with the heater on it cracked. It is now almost to the drivers side pillar.

BTW, I just added you to the Official TEXAS members thread. You are the first El Paso member on the list. Do you know of any other members in El Paso. If so, please feel free to post up their names there.

A passing truck tossed off a fist-sized rock that hit my windshield almost dead center in both directions. While it didn't break it there were 3 small pits measuring 2 1/2" from top to bottom.
I called Ameriprise (Costco), my insurance company, and their adjuster scheduled a replacement the following morning at 9 AM. They didn't even want to have it looked at to see if repair was possible.
They deal with Safelite and I can assure you I will use them for all future glass problems. On-time service, not one messy spot anywhere and the glass is perfect, no distortion etc anywhere.
Thanks Ameriprise and Safelite, it cost me my hundred dollar deductible.

We have it all with Ameriprise and I'm certain there are discounts with it. We have the home, a million dollar umbrella and four vehicles insured. Two of those four are 2008 Crossfire's. The premium for each is $290 for 6 months. My wife is unavailable right now to answer my questions on the rest of each policy but I think we have $500 deductible on collision.

The best thing I ever did for my '05 coupe was get full glass coverage on my insurance policy.(Geico). My windshield was replaced in 2hrs with no out of pocket expense. Don't know who supplied the glass, but the installer said the whole job cost was $300.00. Excellent job done, car looks like new. Well worth the extra investment on the ins. policy..............Bob Ride, Brooklyn,N.Y.

The windshield went in with no issues.
It's Chinese glass of course. The installer claimed that the quality is now on par with the glass that Safelite produces so who knows.
The new glass came with the mirror mount already on just like the Pilkington. The cost was $190.

Pilkington... a British based company. I haven't noticed any Pilkington branded glass on my Crossfire, but then I haven't looked that closely. Nice to know they had something to do with the car!
I had my windscreen replaced via the garage I bought the car from. I complained the car was dangerous to drive, because someone, either when they valeted the car, or a previous owner, had badly scratched the windscreen with a gritty sponge or more likely with an unsuitable ice scraper. I was given a copy of the screen replacement receipt, £250 (about $360) from memory. I'm glad I wasn't paying! I'll have to check what brand of glass they used. I hadn't even thought to look.
