There is just a small this area of black dots along the top that is larger around the rear view mirror

Getting serious, there is just a small band of dots that blur the windshield seal on my '04 LTD. I do not like the colored sun shade much as it hides the traffic lights color and we can't have that.

The glass people are telling me to install Mopar. I have found one glass company with an original windshield in stock, but they want $560.00 for the OEM.
In Austin- My replacement glass will cost me $260. Getting installed as I write this... Everywhere wants to install the dot matrix with the shade or brow, but it's a blue tint, and not for me. I have to pay more for no tint-seems odd, but I am ready to stop seeing all the spiders
I just went out and inspected both windshields.
The Gold car is OEM and has the Chrysler logo at the top of the identifying data. Beneath that is Safeguard, beneath that is Pilkington, beneath that is AS1M1250 DOT 682
The red car has the replacement. it reads: XYG, below that is AS1M 848 DOT 563
After nearly 6 months I still have no complaints. There is no distortion or warping. I have NO problems with it.
I would buy another one.
Jim
PS After much searching I could find only the following in some of the data from Safelite's website:
Certification
Safelite is the only national company with an internal certification program to ensure compliance with the new American National Standard Institute (ANSI) auto glass replacement safety standard.
I'll trust them if they are willing to publish such statements.

Is it a good idea to purchase the windshield thru the person who is going to install it. And what is a reasonable amount to pay for installation only?
thanks.
thanks.
I picked the car up Saturday and immediately went to one of those automated car washes just to make sure there were no leaks
I did not have a choice when I hit a deer, the windshield had "hoof scratches".
The local Chrysler dealer quoted $1300 (part only, no install) and the bodyshop used an aftermarked PGW (Pittsburg Glass Works) item for $300. I will give the dealer credit though, when asked, they dropped all their other prices in their first quote to match the cost of the local used items that the insurance company wanted to install(headlight, fender etc...).
Anybody heard of PGW?
It really seems like I am getting a lot of nicks in it quickly. I wonder if it is a different hardness/quality than the original Chryler piece?

Some laws in Florida are useful. If you have comprehensive insurance (fire, theft, etc. & usually cheap), replacement of a cracked windshield is covered with no deductible.
I replaced mine last year with a Chinese knock off. It's cracked again, risks of running with the big boys with sticky tires, so another Chinese glass will be going in. In P.R. it cost me $250.00 installed. No, insurance won't cover it, $500.00 deductible and P.R. isn't a suburb of Florida.

Another day, another price change. Safelite will be replacing the windshield on my 6 on Thursday. $254 + $9 disposal +25 on-site service. If I ever see the d!ck who felt too privileged to sit in traffic like the rest of us, passed me on the side of the road and kicked up a stone, I'll have payback in mind.
btw - A windshield replacement for my limited from the same Safelite location just 3 years ago was $180ish.

Getting mine replaced on my coupe tomorrow via safelite. Its only going to cost me $50 with windshield insurance. I am going to take a lot of pictures before I drop it off. check all the gaps and such of the molding and panels.
After installation give the window trim a tug all around to make sure they are not loose, or we will be reading that you are looking for new trim pieces.
The actual glass replacement looked as simple as it gets. The problems occur with the windshield surround clips that like to stay clipped. In other words, they come unattached from the trim and stay on the car. If your not on your game they'll just pop it back on with silicon and ignore the clip issue. That is if yours comes apart incorrectly.

Thank you guys. I will address the issue to them and let them know when I drop it off.
It will have a lifetime warranty on installation. So if the trim pieces do fall of. That is their fault due to improper install.

Got my car back. All went well for the most part. My appt. was for 10:30. So I went with a friend to watch a movie. Called them up after the movie which was around 1:30 and they JUST started to work on it... They close at 2:30. They wanted to have the upmost "focus on my car and save it for last" But they got it done, I told them about the trim prior and he did a great job and made sure all the factory clips were in place. I tugged on them good with no issues. It is a Chinese windshield which is a bummer. But oh well, everything is made in China these days it seems like.
Glass is soooo clear. Its crazy! Would of been around $330 with tax if I didn't have insurance on glass.
