My convertible top is driving me crazy. When I first unlatch from the windshield and push the button I get a beep and flashing light. I re-latch the top and go through the process again with the same result. After doing this four or more times it will finally come to life and go down. After driving it, the top goes up as normal. I know it is not the divider because it is in place and the top eventually goes down after the frustrations mentioned earlier. Could it be a bad contact in one of the switches? How many switches are there. Any ideas on which is the most likely culprit and how to test it? Do I need to just start replacing them one at a time? Does anyone know the part numbers and procedure for replacement?
Thanks for any suggestions and or information.
Do the windows always go down when you unlatch the top BEFORE you push the down switch ?
If so, then I'd suspect the switch which is located just above the passenger's right ear. It is actuated by a sliding plastic piece.
Could be the switch, wiring or sliding actuator.
If not, then it could be the switch in the header that senses the "D" handle latches being engaged.
( NOTE: this switch is in the windshield header, not in the top itself )
Thanks for responding. Yes the windows go down. When the button is pushed there is no sound other than the beep from the switch, I assume. When it does finally respond I can hear the click of the latch release and the whirring of the top motor. Is if difficult to get to those switches? Does anyone know the part numbers so I can replace them one by one? How can they be tested?
I have the same problem. Started last year, got worse this year. I don't relatch the top, just keep pressing the button. After a few times the top will go down and yes, it always goes up fine. Thinking that maybe it's the inside switch over the passenger side window that's not making contact internally.

The Power Top Control Module is where all the switch sense wires go, you can get at them there.
I am having this same problem after just having 2 of the cylinders rebuilt. I am thinking that they didn't fill the fluid back up enough. Anyone else fix his problem?

I know nothing about the top but I doubt that the cylinders come full of oil as you would spill some just attaching the lines unless they had valves in each port.

the cylinders were not replaced, they were taken off and rebuilt with new gaskets and put back on.
alright, upon further investigation and reading up on the hydraulics. I believe the level is
fine as this is with the deck lid in the open position. So i moved on to the hidden switch i didn't know was there, above the passengers right ear. i played with it a lil and seems to have fixed the issue. I think it was sticking, Could be from sitting for a few months without the top being put down. I hope this helps someone else that has this same issue.
Thanks for reporting back !
Yes, that is the correct fluid level, and that pesky switch does tend to stick at times.
I lubed mine up with white grease.
My top operated slowly with a juttering kind of movement. I was driving to the airport and was able to get it back up but in order to lock it up. I suspect the fluid level since it was working but haltingly. I'll have to check it when I get back. What fluid is used? Are there online instructions?
I have topped off another convertible I had and it wasn't difficult so I would guess this won't be bad if that's the issue.

you will need a turkey baster syringe and some Pentosin CHFS
