Default For UK Owners - Warranty Info Reminder

A week ago my Catalytic convertors started to rattle and both collapsed last week.

At a quoted £756 each I was horrified until a dealer told me that they should be covered under the 5 YR powertrain warranty...they were.. and they have now been replaced for free.

As a UK owner I wasn’t aware of the powertrain warranty until now and ive read the terms and it covers a lot more.

Its all in your warranty handbook, but covers engine transmission and ancillaries. Worth checking before you take your car for a repair!!.

Oh and by the way the dealer in Rednal Birmingham were fantastic. Shame there the closest to me (South Worcestershire) and still 50 miles away!!!

Hey thanks for letting us know about this - the cats do seem to go on these cars and this info could be priceless!

Hope to see you at one of the UK meets, we have one at Lichfield in the summer,
Steve

When the cats went on my roadster, the local Chrysler dealer wasn't interested.
As far as they were concerned, it didn't have a Chrysler service history, i didn't buy the car from them, & they might have considered some goodwill if i had................
Cut the cats out, bang the broken ceramic out & re-weld them in place.....better sound & no probs with the MOT..............

Wow I didnt know that either - I thought the cats would affect the emmissions level. Are you talking from experience with MOT on this?

Hope to se you at the UK meets!

Cheers

Yes, went thro' the MOT no problem.
My understanding is, the 2 main cats are up by the engine, & would affect the emmissions if removed.
The 2 slung underneath don't appear to be very important.

Interesting - My local dealer (Swindon) says that the Cat is only covered by a 12000 mile or 3 year (whichever is soonest) warranty.

They did try the 3 yr warranty initially, but our cars in the UK only came with a 2 yr warranty anyway.

It states in the Warranty Manual 5 yrs or 50,000 miles. When I showed them the book they instantly remembered!!!

I will post tomorrow whats covered according to Chrysler UK under the 5 Yr warranty.

Need to try and get home in the snow now, thats going to be fun!!

Thanks for all the input. I think mine are covered until my children's grandchildren are dead. California is really nutty about these things and insists on the manufacturers standing behind their emission systems for as long time.

I take it this is only for Brand New Cars brought from the Dealers, not older cars?

Hello Little Wing,

I have a problem with my Cats, the car is too old to be covered by warranty - 53 plate.

I was interested to read your comments on cutting the cat out. Do you think it would be possible to just remove the cat piece and weld in a straight through pipe?
