Default Anyone Change The Factory Stereo

I would love to be able to use my Ipod without an FM transmitter. I have been thinking about going to Best Buy and having a new radio installed. Thoughts and opinions are welcomed.... anyone here switch out the factory stereo and are happy with the results? Would you have someone from Best buy take apart your dash? I am also afraid the the stereo might be too powerfull and blow the speakers.

I installed a Pioneer DEH-P5000UB and have been really happy with it. The install is caveman simple, but I'd keep an eye on the anyhow. Mine has a rear USB/iPod connector and it controls the iPod from the front panel, or you can use the iPod for control like you do now.

After installing this, the subwoofers really came to life. But many different headunits may be just fine.

I have an Alpine:

I really like it, about $250 installed. If runs the Ipod great and it has an adjustable bass control. I have found that by setting the bass to 200hz I can bring it down 2 clicks when I am playing it loud and it really let's the rear subs come out. Filters out the muddy bass you get from the door speakers.

Plays loud, pretty easy to navigate.

i would get the radio from crutchfield.com because they send you all the tools and wires for free if you purshase a radio through them that costs over $140. they have the greatest customer support and you can also get $20 Off your purchase with referral code p1vy4-fakjq-30qkk)

i installed Pioneer DEH-P6000UB and the sound is amazing. 10X better than the factory radio

I installed an Alpine iDA-X100 from Crutchfield. Also used the instructions from the "How To" sticky in the audio forum here. I know very little about installations and it took me longer to solder up the wire harness than to install the unit. This unit is great as an i-Pod interface, including album art if you're i-Pod is set up for that.

I agree, and you'll only blow your speakers if you turn everything all the way up, You get a much broader sound. chris

And this unit is on sale at Crutchfield, I think. $50?

If you really are worried about installing the radio, get a Blaupunkt aftermarket headunit.. their unit is direct plug and play with our harness, and you only need an antenna adapter.. couldn't be any easier, and +1 buy from crutchfield, they'll send you the radio removal keys and antenna adapater for free.

BTW, you didn't say how much you'd be willing to spend but anything from bestbuy will be near price in this with install (don't let them install it anyways, i've seen bad bad bad bad things from those installers even on stuff as simple as headunits..)

Has a front panel aux port as well, you didn't specifiy if you wanted to run the cable from the back to the front, so I figured if you're leary about hooking up a headunit you wouldn't want to take apart pieces to run the cable as well.. sot he front port fits nicely.

I switched mine out last summer for an Alpine unit and I love it. Up until that time I used a transmitter for my I-pod and it was horrible, lot of station clutter in this area. It is my understanding you can hook an I-pod up to the navi radio but not the non navi. Apparently the Navi has RCA jacks you can hard wire your I-pod into.
