So my car finally had its first problem at 6xxx miles. I have the typical rear hatch lock problem where the yellow air line splits in half preventing the lock from being engaged. So I searched. I came up with a bunch of threads that were helpful but most were nonspecific about the dimensions used to fix the hatch.

I found one thread that listed the type of vacuum tubing they used. It was hard line vacuum tubing made by vacu-tite with a 5/32 outer diameter and 3 feet in length. Does this sound right to everyone? I don't want to go to the store and pick something up that I find out doesn't work. Thanks!

 

Can you look in the trunk and see the size of the hose attached to the latch, the hose goes from there to the motor in the right rear quarter panel in the trunk.

 

Will it tell me the size? I don't want to take the car apart when the problem is in the easily removable rubber grommet thingy that connects the hatch with the body of the car. But if there is some information on the sizing of the tubing in other locations along where the tubing runs, it might be worth it.

 

I would go for the quick fix and look at the grommet area and carefully join with the shrink wrap. If that is not possible measure the hose while you can see it.

 

The shrink wrap idea is probably the smart way to do it, but I think I may have found a fairly more convenient way of fixing the hatch problem. I found that a rubber vacuum connector was able to bridge the two broken pieces. It took me about 3-5 minutes to fix in the parking lot at pep boys. At this this point, I'm not sure how permanent the fix, but for now, it works.

 

As a followup, in case anyone would like to know the measurements of what I used, here are the specs. I used vacu-tite vacuum connector, 3/16x2in or 4.76mm x 5.08cm
