Eric, I've heard the name comes from the lines. I've also heard the name comes from the marriage of Chrysler and Daimler. Lastly, I've heard the name came from both of those things. Which is it? 1,2,or3

Eric,

Any thoughts on using the Genesis platform, shortened and made into a 2 seater?

I swear, strakes, SSB color and a spine, that puppy would pass for a Crossfire.

Answer #1 is correct. Don Renkert came up with the name because of the crossing of the lines on the bodyside. When we were developing the original concept there was no intention of using a Mercedes chassis.

I do like the sound of that. Still, with all the intermix of components in cars these days, nothing is truly Korean, German or American, even when it's is produced in Brazil, Lima Peru or Lima Ohio.

That said, OK what in America looks good to you? Chrysler stuff?

The new Chrysler 200C concept car looks pretty cool, and it is based on a shortened 300C platform.

Definitely Crossfiresque. Obviously Chrysler still has their style sense.

Yeah.. if you pushed the seats and windshield to the back and only two doors it would be VERY Crossfire-ish..

When I saw the 200C, it made me think that in some Chrysler board meeting somebody asked what was wrong with the Sebring, and the answer was . . . "it's not a Crossfire."

Judging from the financial hit Chrysler took on our great little cars, they may referring to it as the C word or not referring to it at all.

I saw the Creators new HYUNDAI "Genesis" coupe at the Cleveland Auto show. I must say I was very impressed and it was the only car I sat in.
I always did kind of like the old Tiburons too, especially after they changed the front ends. (Did Eric have anything to do with that?)
Never thought I'd say this about a Hyundai, but I may seriously consider the Genesis as my next everyday driver. I do wish they would have put the sedans V8 in it though.

Thanks for the explanation Eric, very interesting, fills in the blanks for me.
When I was about 12 years old I got a drafting table and some drafting instruments for Christmas, I loved to draw. My uncle was an architect/acoustic engineer and he and my dad figured they'd try and encourage my drawing talents. So I guess I figured I should start designing cars. I'd been a car nut since I could walk and my grandfather was a Chrysler/Dodge/Imperial dealer. So I spent one snowy, home from school morning, looking through car magazines for ideas, back then it was Car Craft, Hot Rod and Motor Trend and I came up with a sketch that looked alarmingly like the Ford Pinto. Hey I'm 12! SO I send it off to Ford for a response. Heck I thought I'd done something great. What I get back from Ford was a Cease and Desist letter. Seems my "design" was a little too close to a Pinto. That was the last time I tried to "design" anything.

Considering the number of deaths that resulted from Pinto Gas tanks exploding, They probably wished they had used your design lol

Or would it end up the Hyundai Crossfire or Firepower?

No, Xfire 2.0 is just a 'What if'....It's fun to think about what could happen if Chrysler weren't in this mess. Anything is possible, though. Maybe we can get some investors together and build it!

The Firepower was actually designed by Brian Nielander, after I had already left the company. Brian and I were interns together and we both started at Chrysler within a few weeks of each other. Last I heard he was still at Chrysler as a design manager.
