Default Keys On A Key Fob

I was told that it isn't good to put keys on your key fob while using the crossfire. That the extra weight will bend or damage the key. Is there any truth to that? I only have 3 extra keys on there.

my car key is on a ring with the little black log-jack gizzy and a small light-weight key fob... I have no fear that the weight will damage my key ...

It wont ruin your key, but it could wear the key switch prematurely and they are expensive for this car.

Are you referring to the ignition switch?

Yes. (ignition /key) switch.
The weight of the keys wears the tumblers.

I heard the same thing.
My Xfire keys stay separate from my other primary key ring.
Besides the Xfire keys are pretty darn bulky, putting them on a key ring/fob just makes the fob that much more unwieldy.
IMO

I have two key fobs and 3 other keys no problems at all. I guess if you had a real lot of keys it could be bad, but I wouldn't wory about a couple of keys on the keychain.

I call Balderdash on that.

Unless you've got a ten pound weight on your key chain, you're not going to damage your key. The ever so slight wear and tear this might add to the ignition switch is negligible too. Don't be silly and believe that ridiculousness.

It depends on what you consider a "ten pound weight"...My daughter (in the style of most young girls) had a massive conglomeration on her key ring:

- every key she owned and a few that she had no clue what they went to
- a rabbit's foot - purple
- 2 troll dolls
- an I (heart) Rob tag
- a nail file
- a nail clipper
- a pepper spray holster
- a personal siren
- an old dog tag from her puppy
- her remote start/alarm fob
- a door entry card from her work
- her college ID card
- an Ipod shuffle
- a picture keychain with a picture of "Rob"
- a cow keychain that when squeezed would go "MOO"
- a vial of Jamaica beach sand
- a pen

Lo and behold, about a year after she got her Sentra, the ignition cylinder needed to be replaced...hmmmmm

Bottom line... 3 keys on the fob won't hurt it? I have 1 house door key, 1 office door key and a small mailbox key. I should be ok right?

I've always kept my car keys separate from my other sets of keys not because of damaging the key or the ignition but as not to scratch and scrape the area around the ignition from the keys swinging back and forth. All my car keys are carried separate from each other.

I usually keep a small gnome, a fudgsicle, a piece of the berlin wall, and my keyfob on the same key chain...no worries for me yet...

but then again, the gnome usually holds the fudgsicle while he sits in the passenger seat while i drive...so that takes some weight off.

Good Lord! Obviously, I don't have much experience with teenage girls. (and NO comments about that either!)

I never saw a switchblade keyfob before I got the XF. Turns out the New Camaro has one too. I like that there are no sharp objects (in my pocket or purse) and keep that key seperate.
I would think having a couple of keys (they don't weigh much) wouldn't have much of an effect on the tumblers.
