Default My review of the crossfire

After reading some of these messages on this board and seeing some PICS I just had to take one for a test drive.

Now I know what your thinking, That the dealers are only test driving very serious people and how do I think I'm going to drive one while being the young age of 23?

Here is my answer: In my short life I have had the pleasure to have the money to buy some of the nicest cars including BMW 3 series, Mercedes slk/clk, Porsche 911s but my current car is an Audi TT. lol I love that little bug.

So after pulling up in a TT and pretty much ignoring the salesmen They are convinced I'm a serious buyer.

So I get into a red colored with the cute two tone leather. now for the review....

The minute you sit in this car you feel like your Mercedes slk/clk but with a low budget interior. A lot of plastic in the cockpit, reminds me of that joke of a car called the 350z. still the leather with the denim/cloth sides feel very nice with a very serious piping around the entire seat. I actually like the interior of this crossfire more then any other Benz out there (besides the new SL).
once your in drive you are again reminded of the German backgrounds, with the stiffness and not a squeak when you hit a bump driving, I love it!
things i would change????
though it is quick, i must say it needs more *****! so this also means the aftermarket tuners are going to have a ball with this car.
Kill the plastic, at least put some carbon fiber in it or something.

Above all what I think,
I love to see a "real" German car under an American badge!
This is one of the top American badge cars out there.
I want to see what they look like in value after next year, I wish all you owners with the best of luck with your new car, its nice and it put a smile on my face, which for a car (besides BMW) is a very hard thing to do.

tell me what you think of yours and what you seen

I'm glad a seasoned profesional like you gave the car high marks!!The interior trim might be a little cheaper in quality but thats one of the reasons it costs 10 grand less than a benz.

I really liked it all and all, I thought it would be much worse, but was surpised on the detail used thru out the inside. like I said before I wanna see what they do in the future with these cause I might just be driving one soon too.

congrats on the machine!

Got a little carried away with my reply. I happen to drive a 350Z, but I've always loved the Audi TT, and I really like the looks of the new crossfire, I also check up on the RX8 forums. All nice cars.

yea again the about the inter,

I think the inter is one of the most inportant things for a car because thats what you see when you drive, besides walking to and from or even washing it you never really see the outside.
all the companies these days are useing plastic that is painted silver, its a major cost effective thing to do.
I wasent surpised with the 350z niether but they could of spiced it up a bit on the g35.
also on the 350z I hate the orangey dials, yuck I know its the best for viewing but no thanx.
Thats why I like the TT cause of the use of REEL metal and the white numbers with red needles cluster.

again its just my opinion
the 350z will have alot of toys to buy for it though, witch is always fun!

Interesting to see your reviews guys ... I placed my order today for a Crossfire in Silver & Auto. Dealer in Northampton, England asked me whether I want 1 or 2 tone leather pack ... as car is not due for launch over here in the UK until October, can anyone advise if the 2 tone option is better than just 1 colour.

Many thanks in advance ... deVere Forster, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

I personally think the two-tone interior is fabulous. You can see some pictures of it in the gallery. My Crossfire will definitely have the two-tone cedar interior. Everyone I have showed pictures to loves it.

Took a test drive yesterday in a red one with automatic. The salesman said they are only getting one more this year. Doesn't know when or what color or tranny. The red color wasn't bad, but not as nice as the Inferno Red they had for the M, or the Torch Red on the Vette, but still a nice rich red. I liked the Viper like seats a lot, and the A/C was really good too. Did not like the fact the steering wheel does not tilt. Telescoped about 3" once in the car, which was nice, but with long legs I had some effort getting my thigh past the steering wheel. I get back spasms a lot and the potential problem getting in and out with a sore back was a concern. This day the back was good and in and out was ok. Seemed a little quicker than my 300M off the line, maybe a smidge. Loved the thickness of the steering wheel, and the tight feel of the wheel in steering. Similar to my M, maybe a little tighter. Trunk was a joke. No golf bag and clubs in there baby. A brief case and gym bag at most. No spare, so they ought to give a run-flat tire option instead of a can of inflate stuff. Rear window visibility was definitely a problem. Overall a fun car to drive, but it would be best for cruising on the weekend trips rather than as a daily commuter/driver, IMHO. Since I paid $11K less for my 99 300M, the key question for me is "Do I want this "toy" enough to spend $38.5K on it?" [dealer had a 3K mark-up]. I'd also want to keep the M for more practical uses. I think I am gonna have to wait til the fall and see what shakes out by then on availability, and maybe a bigger power plant. Bring back the promised 275 hp.

You probably won't see a "bigger" power plant...BUT probably will see a more powerful one, either through the addition of a Turbo or two Turbos..or perhaps a Supercharger like the concept.

Only a smidge quicker than your 300M? What have you done to your 300M?

It's certainly quite a smidge quicker than my 300M, both of them ('99 255HP and '01 250HP).

Chrysler stats say about 1+ second faster (depending on who's 300M times you take) on the sprint but at almost 1,000lbs lighter, punchier tranny ratio and better traction with those stickier fat wheels, the feeling definitely says faster hands down.

Always room for more horses in my garage but the car holds itself quite well with what it has now. Kits are available from the usual Mercedes mod suspects to take the R170 platform all the way beyond 300+ so the potential is there, especially for a body rated at 52Hz and I'm sure they'll do the Crossfire pretty soon.

I doubt turbos but they can throw in a Kompressor supercharger or bump it up to the SLK32 AMG's setup which will fit in just fine as it belongs to the same R170 Mercedes platform.

Default Does hold 2 golf bags

Hey BigMike60..... Get those eyes re-calibrated partner!!! The wife and I went and played this weekend and we brought our clubs and leather tour bags with us. I that "Joke of a trunk". Just take the drivers and 3 woods out of the bags and the bags fit just fine. Then lay the woods on top. No problem. The only problem is getting away from the club. Everybody and their brother wants to talk to you about the car. At least in your 300M you don't have that problem

Default crossfire interior

This cracks me up. Everybody says that the crossfire looks cheap compared to the slk. I got news for you, it IS the previous slk interior, even the seats. The dash (just silver instead of black), the controls ( one magazine reviewer said they must be Chrysler because their not as good as Benz. They are Benz. One Numb Nuts even said that they have drum brakes on the rear! Whats the matter with these people? I can only imagine that Benz purists hate the car because it dilutes their exclusiveness. Others just hate Chryslers and won't give the car a chance.
