Race 2
In regard to the 12:58 1/4 mile time this guy says he did with a stock 3.2. Prove it with a time slip.
Today I raced a Firebird Transam LS1. I have a TVT 265 kit on my limited plus a sprint booster and a magnaflow exhaust. I put the Limited in 1st and floored it, letting the auto stick do the shifting.
It was pretty much nose to nose until I hit 65mph and the larger injectors kicked in. Then I was only about 1ft ahead of him at 100mph. It was all I could do to go nose to nose with this guy and my car isn't stock. Of course the Firebird is a V8 and has more HP. Does anyone know how much HP an LS1 has. If anyone is looking for a car with impressive performance and impressive 1/4 times the SRT6 is the way to go, period. Not a limited.
I did this on a very long, safe stretch of road with no traffic. Kids don't try this at home.

LS1 Trans Am = 305-310 hp
LS1 Trans Am w/ Ram Air = 320-345 for rare SLP models

I have never heard of fuel injectors kicking in at a certian speed like that lol.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Crossfire Limited would have a higher top end than a Trans Am. You might lose to him on the drag strip but you'd eventually catch and pass him on a highway, right? Or are Trans Ams capable of reaching 150 mph and being stable at that speed?
The LS1 Firebirds, despite their poor sales, were among the fastest ever produced. Outfitted with the all-aluminum 5.7L V8 from the Corvette C5, and producing 305 hp (227 kW) at 5,200 rpm; 335 ft·lbf (454 N·m)
Top Speed 155 mph / 250 km/h (electronically limited) this was for 2001 and below.
2002 was raised to 165 mph (electronically limited). Power was also upped to 330 with Ram Air 350 HP. These were serious cars. The highest top speed on a Limited I ever read was 150 mph. That was on the Autobahn when they first came out.

SRT6 is electronically governed to 158 mph and the n/a to 150 mph. I suspect both, but especially the SRT6, can exceed that in stock trim. One of the SRT6 guys, with mods and an ECU change, has hit 180+ (or so he claims).
I've had my roadster to 140 and the SRT6 to 150 before running out of safe road. Both seemed to have more top end, esp the SRT6 -- it was still accelerating when I backed off.

coming from a man who owned a z28 and went to an Xfire, i can in no way beleive that you were nose to nose at all with the trans-am.
Maybe he was a terribly bad driver.
Dont get me wrong i love my crossfire, but i never bought to ever beat a LS1 powered anything.
Those cars are out of the box ready to run 13 flat 1/4 miles and low to 5 second flat 0-60 times. i know i did it.
You would be hard pressed to find a guy that couldn't beat an automatic X-fire.
only the srt-6 would beat it, but even then it would give it a run for its money seeing how i personally had the opportunity to hit 180MPH in a buddy's WS6.
I'm sure you had a blast, but those LS F-bodies are rediculous.
Thanks,
Justin

While I don't doubt they are good drag racers, I'm surprised that a Trans Am would be stable at 150+ mph. I thought most muscle cars tended to get floaty at really high speeds.
I've been more scared in a mini cooper, than in either my z28 or my buddy's ws6.
i think most would be surprised at how nice they are after a few suspension modifications.
it doesnt sound like this transam had any modifications.

Remember my car is not stock. I have 268+ hp. Not a monster, but not a sleeper either.
Believe me the driver of the TransAm was going all out. With the TVT flash I can feel a power curve really hitting around 60-70 mph. Still plenty of power off the line also. You are right the LSF body is ridiculous. So was the look on his face when I passed him. As I said before..If you want to race and win buy an SRT6. If you want to street race once in a while and win once in a while, then modify your Limited. It will do the job. More fun then my 98 M3.
