Question Coolant Light Wont Go Off :(

Hi Folks,

I posted this once but I am still having issues. My coolant low light came on about 2 weeks ago and would keep going on and off for about 3 days. Finally the light stuck on and I took it into a firestone here. The guy lifted up the hood and was about to refill my coolant. We both looked into the cannister to find the coolant was full. He looked and me and said " Well theres nothing you can do except keep an eye on the temperature gauge. If it goes past the 2nd to the last bar then you have an issue. Nothing has happend since then. The light is still stuck on though. Its driving me insane. I dont know about you guys but when those lights go on it bugs the heck out of me until they are fixed. What could be going on? How do I get the light off if everything is ok?

Thanks,

Ryan

Check the connection at the bottom of the coolant tank.....unplug it and then plug it back in to reseat. Stop by an autoparts store and have them clear the codes (if any). If that doesn't work, try disconnecting the battery for about half an hour, then reconnect.

Don't know what else to suggest....unless the sensor itself has actually gone bad.

The coolant level sensor is a pretty cheap part (under $20 ), and an easy DIY.

You'll need to drain some coolant to replace it, but the procedure is pretty much just drain coolant, disconnect sensor wires, remove sensor, wet the o-ring on new sensor with coolant, slide in new sensor, re connect, refill system with coolant, replace coolant cap, run engine, top off coolant, re-replace cap.
