Question AC acting weird

I just noticed that my AC has begun acting very weird. The AC doesnt work until my car starts running for about 5 minutes. If I sit idle the AC blows warmer air at me until the car is going for about 5 more minutes. If I am driving steady the AC works wonderfully until I stop again. Its a repeat cycle. I have never had this problem until recently. Its not as if the AC doesnt work. It just doesnt work until I start driving for 5-10 minutes. Is this normal? I don't think so. How and where do I take it to fix it?

Thanks,

Ryan

How old is your car? If it is several years old, and from what you describe, sounds like you might be simply low on refrigerant. This would be the best thing to be wrong and easiest/cheapest to correct, BTW.

You will need to take it in to your dealer or respectable AC guy to check for proper pressure/volume of refrigerant and use the sniffer to check for slow leaks in the system. If you are indeed low on juice, correct as necessary.

A not-so-good but next best thing that might be wrong would be a weak compressor. Ouch.

I know it sound mindless, but just double-check you've got all your controls set properly.

Good luck.
